I'm a little over "11 weeks" now with a blighted ovum that was diagnosed at 10 weeks. I have an appointment tomorrow to talk about the D & C. After reading about miscarriages at 10 weeks or later, I'm pretty sure I want to go ahead with the procedure, but I've read that it can cause scarring which worries me. Just wondering how others made the decision between the two options... especially if you are a little father along like I am. I've read about a lot of people getting pregnant quickly after a D & C so hopefully it won't cause any problems. Any advice would be helpful or any stories if you chose to miscarry one way and wish you had chose the other might be helpful too. Thanks! Can't wait to officially join this TTC thread again!

Hi photopassion - I'm very sorry for your loss. I had a D&C at 11 weeks, the baby never grew past 8 weeks though. Since then, I have had another MC, and now am seeing a fertility specialist who is concerned about scarring on my uterus. She says it could be from my prior pregnancy, but FWIW, if I could do it again, I would avoid the D&C. No reason to risk it, and end up later having to have further interventions and scar tissue removal. It's worth asking how big the blighted ovum is, and if the pills will work for you / will be very painful. I know the pill method is scary because you have to essentially have labor at home, but as long as you know what you are in for and have support, you should be ok.

Just my 2 cents. Again, very sorry for what you are going through.

Hey! I had a very positive experience with my D and C. No pain, just some mild discomfort for a few hours and physical recovery excellent.
It's been 4 months since and in not pregnant again yet, I have hope that I will be again one day. I normally take 3-4 months on average going by my last two conceptions. I think my body has just taken a while to settle down properly.
Good luck with whatever you choose and sorry you are going through this :hugs:

I'm sorry for your loss :hugs: personally, I think you should go natural if possible, I know a lot of women do just fine with a d&c but my thoughts on it are this and this is after having several friends who have had consequences after having a d&c...if you try to allow your body to do it naturally which yes is hard emotionally and physically (I've had two and one was close to where you're at) your body will most likely take care of things, if for some reason it doesn't, the d&c is always there however if you have the d&c and something goes wrong you can't go backwards and say oh well that didn't work out as planned so I'll just go naturally, once it's done it's done-just my two cents.

I've just had a natural misscarriage at 8 weeks and although the experience was bearable I was frightened by how big the clots were and at times the cramps were intense. I think if I were further along than 8 weeks I would have opted for a D&C. Often many ladies find that they still require a D&C anyway because the natural miscarriage has not passed everything. At least a D&C gets things over with a bit quicker. Although my body completed the miscarriage fully, I'm still bleeding 2 weeks on which is just prolonging the experience for me. I just want to put this behind me!

My friend had a D&C and got pregnant very quickly afterwards and is now expecting her 2nd baby xxx

Thanks for all the opinions. I'm still not 100% sure on if I'm making the right decision but I do have a D & C scheduled for tomorrow. I've been bleeding more and cramping today so maybe my body will decide to go ahead and do it tonight. It's such a hard choice to make for me when it's this far along!
