Well, it's taken me over a week to post this with the hectic ness of new motherhood but here goes ....

On Tuesday the 1st may (at 40+9) at 5.30 in th mornings, the contractions started. Very bearable and around 10 min apart do I packed my husband off to work with the hopes that I may have to call him back. The contractions were consistent but didn't get any worse and although they were not excruciating, I couldn't sleep through them do had sleepless night number 1. On the Wednesday morning the contractions had gone to 5 mins apart and were more painful so me, my husband and mum made our way to the hospital. After 30 mins of monitoring and then an internal, I was told that I was only a fingertip dialated! (24 hours of contractions for a fingertip!) and we were sent home.

I dosed myself up on paracetamol and spent the day in a fair amount of pain (at the time I didn't think the pain could get any worse, boy was I wrong!). Around 11 on the wed night, the contractions were around 3/4 mins apart and were now unbearable so off we go to hospital again to find that I am only 3cm and that my contractions should be even closer together and more intense. This seems impossible to me but again we are sent home.

By the time I get home the contractions are crazily bad and I can only manage an hour before I ask to go back to hospital and this time although only just under 4cm dilated, they finally admit me and put me in a delivery suite. The next bit is very much a blur. The contractions are so bad that gas and air has no effect. I wa ob a monitor because of high bmi but this was so uncomfortable and they were finding the baby's heart hard to find that we decided to allow a clip on her head. To put her click on, they needed to break my waters, this was very incomfortable and took the midwife ages to do as the sac was so tough (this baby really wanted to stay in). The waters broke and the baby had pooed so they woul have had to put the clip on anyway. Despite my hopes that I would give birth with only gas and air, there was no way I handle the pain and ended up with pethadine and then epidural when that didn't work.

Once I had the epidural, things were so much better and I could sit and chat and listen to music while things progressed. They checked me after 4 hours and I was 9cm . From there it was an hour to wait for the last cm, an hour for the head to move down and then an hour of pushing. The pushing was incredibly difficult with not being able to feel down below. I had mum one side, oh the other holding both my hands for me to brace against with every push! At some point the baby started to get a bit distressed and my temperature went up so the midwife fetched a doctor and ventouse was mentioned. I was given an episiotomy and a few more tries at pushing before they decided to attaché the ventouse but just before he did, I managed to push her out!! She was perfect!!!

Born on Thursday the 3rd of May 2012 at 14.12, little Tesla Storm came into this world at 8lb 4 and was 11 days late.
All is well with baby and myself over a week later (despite the sleepless nights!!)

Congratulations on your new addition! Best of luck!:happydance:
