December Babies 2013 :)

not too bad here.. had a mental few days trying to get the last few bits and bobs sorted for xmad and the dreaded food shop :(
still got to pop to home bargains at some point to get choc coins and some bits and pieces choc wise, wait for my OHs present to get here (guaranteed by xmas eve so fingers crossed) and then can get in the xmas spirit..
travis has been marvellous past few days going 6 hours between feeds in the night.. hoping hes gonna be a good sleeper like his brother :)
hes taking 4oz bottles and draining the bottles, he'll go every 3-4 hours in the day then come 6-7pm he can drink at least 12oz in a space of 2 hours then go 6 hours in the night.. cant quite remember if this is normal butit seems to be working for him so im happy to go with it for now :)
hows things with you?
ready for xmas?
xx

Am envious! No feeding pattern at all yet. Luke cluster feeds all night long and then sleeps soundly all day long. I have taken to some co sleeping so I can feed lying down and get some rest while he is clinging to my boob. I dont want baby in my bed but have rationalized it is safer than me nodding off trying to feed sitting up and I am desperate for sleep.

I know it is early days and hopefully in a few weeks things will settle down. I am mainly worried about when DH goes back to work and having to get up at 6am with ds1...6am seems to be the peak ofy exhaustion!

Xmas plans going well...ordered our dinner from M&S so nice and easy this year. DH will go supermarket tomorrow and all the pressies are bought. .only a couple for DH to wrap. Looking forward to it!

yeah travis seems to cluster feed around 6-7pm.. its working for him so i wouldnt moan, only the past week hes had his routine really and i feel really bad as in january when my eldest is back in school im going to have to upset his routine to one that suits me better with OH back at work.. im hoping to see if i can change it after christmas but tbh i cant see me getting up at 6:30 - 7:00am when i dont need to but i know i'll regret it if i dont :( cant win sometimes..
i wish i bf sometimes so i could do a hour or two co sleeping as i can feel myself nodding off when im awake feeding, manage to stay awake as its only for half hour or so but my eldest has sttn since he was 4 weeks old and he was 4 in october so its hard work running on broken sleep again :(
omg i so wish id ordered xmas dinner, not looking forward to cooking this year, this year will be the first that we arent visiting family.. my mum and dad will come over xmas morning with presents as they always do and we usually go over there for tea but this year we've decided not to go anywhere and just stay here with our own little family, all my son has asked for is a train set for xmas and back in august i saw a bargain wooden train set, second hand but immaculate, over 250 pounds worth, bridges, tunnels, battery operated trains etc for 40 pound on gumtree so we snatched that up and we're setting it up on xmas eve, im soooo excited to see his face when he sees that and all his other presents.. more excited than he is tbh lol so dont really want to be taking him away from his presents this year as i know he's going to love it.. i've adopted the attitude of "if you want to see me this xmas you know where i live" some members of family have said its not very nice of me but my reply to them is "my son is extremely excited for xmas this year and incase you've forgotten by the time xmas comes then i will have given birth only 3 weeks ago and it isnt fair on me or travis to be dragging him around the houses, so if u want me you know where i'll be" (between me and oh we have a big family.. ive got 3 brothers and he has 3 sisters and 1 brother)
i could never in a million years imagine sending my OH to the supermarket, goodness knows what he'd come home with or forgotten, i'd end up having to go myself so may as well go myself in the beginning.. home bargains and co-op tomorrow for choccies and bring on xmas :)
got the xmas eve box on standby so im ready and waiting

I totally agree... no way was I going anywhere this year....besides our car is now officially too small for us to go any place for long! Hoping to get a new 'family car' next year.

Wow. You have been lucky with your sleepers! My ds sleeps wonderfully now but sttn from 11 months. ..he stopped feeding at night long before but continued to wake although it was usually brief and he could be settled quickly using white noise. I started using white noise with Luke already! Seems to be helping with the night time restless ness! Last night and night before he settled with white noise and just woke for feeds..am getting a couple of 2-2 1/2 hour stretchs of sleep...better although still exhausted!
Have a great day.
Merry Christmas! !

we've been extremely lucky.. everyone said that because ashton was such a good baby that travis wouldnt be, touch wood he will be, have to keep reminding myself hes only 3 weeks old tomorrow.. what is white noise? sounds promising if i need it..

merry christmas to you too :)
hope you've had a wonderful day today.. was deffo worth 40 pound for the train set as he hasnt stopped playing with it all day, the majority of everything else is still in boxes.. his little face was a picture, worth every penny we've spent imo.. and all hes said today is "i love my new train set mammy/daddy" and countless times said "merry christmas mammy/daddy" cant wait for next year already :)

That is adorable! Bless.

We have had a good day although I was a bit overwhelmed by just how much mess being host creates. Will was also overtaken by present s and we have a stack left unopened!

We use a white noise app on a smartphone. We chose 'heavy rain'
We turn phone to flight mode and place closeto
Baby...it has to be quite loud and it drowns out all other stimuli for baby
We totally relied on it with Will...works so well! I used to worry we would turn him into a zombie or he would never settle without it but dr actually recommends use of white noise in first year and Will cam settle just fine without now...we still use it with him sometimes if he is struggling to sleep.

Hey. How are you doing?

DH went back to work on Friday.. I cheated a bit. I had a friend over in the morning and mil had William in the afternoon! Still... why struggle when help is available?! Had a lovely afternoon just me and Luke snoozing on the sofa... ahhhh... how did I ever think it was hard just having one newborn?? I know I was not well first time round (PND) but I swear William was not this easy...

Luke barely cries and although he is feeding every 2 hours (from start of feed... yawwwn) during night he is pretty settled in between (thanks to white noise!).. he still sleeps almost all day and when he is awake he is happy just to lay in bouncer chair or on mat and stare around him... I don't remember William doing that! I remember feeling I would never even be able to put on mascara because as soon as I put him down he cried... am I imagining these memories?? I too was told horror stories about the second born being so much harder as William was a pretty text book baby.. but so far? Luke is a doddle!!

It is William that is hard work... he seems to have developed so much in the past few weeks.. he talks non stop and constantly demands attention and entertaining.. thank goodness for DH.. he seems happy to play with him for hours.. I must admit I lack the imagination that he has!

Got my sister visiting for a day or two from tomorrow so not too panicked.. New Years Day on Weds so DH home... hoping nursery is open again on Thursday and then mil will have Will Friday afternoon so this week is shaping up pretty good!! Lots of help!

i know the feeling my oh went back to work yesterday, (he was supposed to go back last week but he pulled a few sickies seeing as it was xmas) and i had to go to town yesterday to pick up bday cards for him (he was a nye baby) so i was very very brave and ventured out with the 2 of them.. Travis is marvellous still, i dont hear him but Ashtons going through the not listening/answering back stage.. luckily i only needed to go to the card shop but it was a good idea how its going to be with 2, only for a week and hes back in school..

you've been very lucky with the help available to you.. my mums off work so if i need her i know she'll be hapoy to help, and although she only lives 8 miles away (takes 25 mins to get there at most) its the fact of getting them both ready, putting them in the car and driving there, i much prefer her to come here lol

im def going to look into white noise just incase.. i was always told that if your first baby was good then you'll never have two the same but honestly i can say hes turning out exactly like his brother and fingers crossed he stays this way! we've got a baby bean bag from ashton and i can say it was the best 40 pound ive ever spent, ashton loved it and travis does too, hes happy enough to lie on there most of the day and look around taking everything in..

have you had luke weighed recently? my health visitor came on friday, he was 6lb 12 and a half born and when she came on friday he was 8lb 15oz.. i knew he was putting weight on but hes growing too fast :( 4 weeks old thursday already..

ive bumped the original thread i posted about this group too, been stalking the thread in 3rd tri so be nice to see some of them mummies joining us in here :)

Hi ladies, hope you are all well and an early happy new year to you all.
My name is Kelly, I'm a FTM my little girl was born 13/12/13 ( I knew it'd be this date) 9 days early. And weighing 5lb12 1/2 ounces. We were induced as my bp was sky high and she had stopped growing and low amniotic fluid. The birth was awful, scary and they used kiwi ventouse in the end to get her out quick as the theatre was full so they were intending on me having a section but they needed to get her out quicker. My stitches are healing.
Darcie lost over 10 punches in weight in the first couple of days so I had to bf every hr. luckily she is back over birth weight last time she was weighed and hv is coming on thurs. I'm sure she's put more weight on she's getting quite heavy now.
I'm absolutely shattered she sleeps loads in the day and is awake at night. She ony likes to sleep on my chest at night, and won't settle in the Moses basket. Although in the day she sleeps hrs in the bloody thing. I'm surviving on about 2 hrs sleep a day! Last couple of days I sleep downstairs with her as OH works long hrs so I let him sleep. Do I wake her so she sleeps better at night, should she be in a routine by now?
Xx:hugs:

Hi Kelly,

Lovely to have you join us. I think it is still far too early to worry about routine. I expect by about 6 weeks Darcie will start to differentiate day and night and u will see a difference in her night sleep. I highly recommend the use of white noise at night to settle her in the Moses..works amazingly with both my boys. Luke also sleeps soundly all day, awake in evenings then disturbed sleep and feeding more often at night. My William was just the same and I remember thinking I needed to DO something to encourage routine. I started putting William to bed at 3 weeks with story etc...it was far too soon. I spent all evening running up and downstairs soothing him. I believe baby will naturally fall into a routine by about three months as they fall into our rhythms and you only need to do subtle things to help. For now I suggest allowing baby to adjust to life on the outside in the calmest way possible..enjoy having her on your chest a bit as soon she will be tucked up in bed. Sleep deprivation is a killer...get in the white noise!!! I also suggest you allow her to sleep in the day, sleep breeds sleep and it will most likely be even harder to settle her at night if she is over tired.

My hv has advised that it is no longer recommended to have baby weighed more than 3 times in the first year!! I was quite shocked as when I had Will the advice was to go every week. I don't know what he weighs but Luke is def getting bigger.

3 times?! thats quite shocking.. ive had travis weighed 3 times already :/ first when he was a week old, next on the 16th (my due date and first time for hv to call) then on the 27th and shes coming back on the 6th to weigh him again and told me after that if i want him weighed i can go on a wednesday.. i find that very strange.. they get weighed when they have their imms dont they?xx

hi kelly :)
congrats on baby Darcie (love her name) sorry your induction wasnt the best, ive been induced twice now, my first was amazing and i would go around recommending them to everyone, my second wasnt too bad but everything happened soo fast i was in a little world of my own for about an hour after he was born..
that reminds me i desperatley need to get my birth story written up at some point this week..
happy new year to you too :)
same as ruby said really, she is still a bit young for a routine, i can only imagine how hard it must be for you running on not much sleep but it gets better, honest :)
make the most of her wanting to sleep on you, neither of my boys liked that :( theyre not babies for long..
travis has started to get used to the difference between day and night lately and will sleep for 4/5 hours between feeds at night and 3/4 hours during the day with a bit of awake time.. she'll settle into her routine before you know it.. try the white noise ruby mentioned :)
fingers crossed it works for you.. let us know how you get on with it?xx

Took me a while to get here but hi ladies! :D
I'm Jess, my Charlotte Lilyana Rose was born on the 18th of December. She's an angel baby! She's made the transition to parenthood so much easier for my OH and I! Hope you ladies are all doing well and your LO's are happy and healthy :)

I think she must have meant 3 further times after she does her six week visit as Luke was weighed at birth, a week later and will be weighed when she comes again in a few weeks. Hv reckons as long as baby appears healthy and had plenty of dirty nappies there is no need to weigh! I was shocked too and couldn't help feeling that it is more to do with how busy the clinic is here that they don't want us going every week.

Happy New Year to you too x

Welcome Jess!

Mila Paris was born 02/12/13 weighing 7lb 5oz

I have 2 older boys Dante 4 and Roman 22months (yes I have my hands full)

Glad this threads here never know where to post in baby club

Zoe xx

Congrats Zoe... Any tips u have on juggling kids greatly appreciated!!

Hi,
We've already tried white noise it works for about 10 mins then she starts whinging again. I've told OH this is what you get for baby being born on Friday 13th! I feel better that I don't need to set a routine yet. I was worried I'd done it all wrong. Thanks for the advice ladies xx:hugs:

White noise had little effect on my Luke last night either... The three week growth spurt has arrived and he wanted feeding all flipping night....sooo tired!! Hopefully it will pass in a day or two and with any luck his stomach will grow too and I might see some longer sleep at night!
