I've done research and see that it's very Irish...Is this name ever used in the US? Anybody know? I really like it, I saw it on the show Degrassi, but I can't convince the hubby. What do you think of the name?

I'm in the US -- i have never known a Declan personally -- but love the name!

Here is how it ranked in the US based on the gov's soc security list:

Popularity of the male name Declan

Year of birth Rank
2009 308
2008 346
2007 348
2006 367
2005 352
2004 430
2003 420
2002 439
2001 452
2000 545

So it's a known name... gaining slightly in popularity... but certainly not common or over-used! Which is good!

Oh thank you for the info :) I have never heard it in the US, but I guess it is used!

I'm irish and it's fairly common over here. It was my exs name so won't be using it :haha:

Ive heard it but seems like it was pronounced Dee-clan around here :)

I had a friend in college in the states who's name was Declan. He was gorgeous too! His dad was Irish which I know is where it came from as when I was trying to chat him up, I asked!

I <3 the name Declan!!! :D xx good choice! its not uncommon in the UK x well known but rarely used, a bit like my son's name Duncan! :D

There is a little boy on here called Declan. It is lovely.
