I want my husband and I to do a natural fertility detox, but I don't know what herbs to use. I considered buying the fertility cleanse kit from the natural fertility shop but I wanted to see if there was a cheaper alternative to try instead of spending 90 dollars.
However if any of you have used any of the fertility kits from the natural fertility shop I would love to hear your experience with it.
We are considering trying IVF sometime in the next year or two and I want to start preparing now by doing everything possible. This is the first thing on my list.

Along with the herbs, you may want to do a little research on just changing your everyday diet. I've seen several LTTTCers on boards who have had a lot of
success with switching over to a gluten free diet. With the herbs, it usually takes about 2-3 months for them to get to their full effect. Gluten-free usually only takes about 1 month before you really start to feel a difference.

I can't talk from personal experience (my 10 yrs of infertility treatments were for unknown secondary infertility), but it seems that a lot of women are having some pretty good luck with raising sperm counts with just a change in diet and herbs/vitamins.

Something else to consider that is a little off topic... is it possible that he had some kind of infection (not an STD type infection...just a general bacterial imbalance)? I would look into a round of antibiotics and then see if that helps with his count also. If it is an infection of some sort, his count should rebound fairly quickly after he is treated.

Hi There - my gyny consultant recommended the Mediterranean Diet -

Lots of natural goodness:flower:

My hubbys sperm count improved 40% with suppliments, no junk food, no caffeine and limited alcohol. So all things are possible.

popchick-Thank you for the advice. I am going gluten free starting tomorrow, I don't know how it is going to go but I am going to try my hardest. My family has a history of endometriosis so I am trying to do as much as I can to avoid getting it and I have read that eating gluten free is a good way.
I did not consider that he may of had or has some sort of infection. I don't think he does, but I am not sure if his doctor tested for anything like that or not. This is something I want to look into, thank you for the suggestion.

Emmi- That website is perfect. It lays everything out for you. I have heard about the Mediterranean diet before but could never find a website with so much information on it. Did your husband follow this diet?
Right now my husband is on all kinds of vitamins, supplements, and herbs. We are also trying really hard to eat healthy again, we gave up for a while after getting the bad news about his SA because it was so discouraging, but I decided we have to give it everything we can before we just give up.

Do a little research on dong qui. It's a traditional Chinese herb that is usually recommended by acupuncturists. It can be helpful for endometriosis. I have a coworker and he and his wife went through unexplained infertily for 7 years. They had family I'm Hong Kong who sent them Chinese herbs and they were expecting in 2 months.....no treatments other than the herbs :)

You just have to throw everything at it! You don't want to ever look back and think if only.....Hubby has been really good - he changed big time after we started IVF - all that money we were paying and I needed to feel that he was giving it his best shot. My hubby is never going to perfect with his eating habits but as long as he is getting his 5 a day - then I won't nag!

And caffeine - it's one of the worst things (along with alcohol) - that's a big no no for both of us! It can be hard but you are doing it for such an important reason.

That is wonderful!
I have done a lot of research on dong quai and some sources say it is good for endo others say it is bad. I am not sure what to think.

Emmi- You are right! I would hate to look back and think that there was more we could have done. My husband complains so much about eating healthy but he takes all the vitamins and supplements I give him without any complaints.
