diabetes & insulin.. need some encouragment :(

Insulin will not harm your baby, it is naturally produced in the body. You are only replacing what you would normally have because the hormones from the pregnancy are blocking your own insulin production.

You are doing the right things, eating a low carb diet and taking the insulin as recommended. Your 300u a day is a high dose, but not unprecedented, and it's obviously what your body needs. If your A1c is just over 6, that's good and pretty much where you should be aiming for.

I would try to relax a little. The stress and worry are probably doing more harm xxx

Thank you all! I feel a lot better today about everything.. I'm just going to continue my low carb diet and taking a lot of insulin! Hopefully baby wont get too big! :) good luck to all of you! :D

Hi,

I've only just found your thread! Im 28 weeks and in the past 3 weeks my insulin needs have trebled from around 48 units a day to at least 120! I have a great diabetic team and they said to expect it to go even higher over the next few weeks, as long as it is keeping your sugars down then it'll be fine!

Do you have ketone sticks at home? if not request some, they are really helpful to track your ketones and then you'll know how you are doing. IF you hba1c is just over 6 then that is great, however that is historic over the past 3 months so if you feel crap now that is what matters!

Im sure you'll be fine, I just tested and i was 19, however i have just increased insulin and it is coming down now- i get really stressed but stress increases BM's which is bloody annoying.

Is it gestational diabetes or were you diabetic before? Pxx
