Many books tell you that sperm can last for 5 days and the egg for 24 hours. While this is technically true on the very long end (and something to follow if you trying to NOT get pregnant), most sperm will only last about two hours if you do not have fertile-quality cervical mucus for it to swim in. The sperm will struggle to swim up to your uterus, use all its reserves, and not make it. The egg typically lives only about 12 hours, so it cannot wait for long.

:hissy: I soooo thought :spermy: generally lasted about 48 hours, hence why bd'ing every other day was ok?!... Now im kicking myself for not being more 'comitted'!!

think diff places say diff things hun there r so many statemaent n at the end of the day do it how often u want x

Don't worry about it. It's true that generally most of the sperm will get killed by your CM while it isn't fertile but most people's CM is fertile for a good day or two before ovulation so BD'ing every other day is still fine.

Even before that as your CM starts to change in consistancy and PH the swimmers can start to live for longer and have more chance of making it to the safety of your uterus where conditions are perfect for them. Also, I'm sure that pretty much most of the time some of the sperm can make it past your cervix to safety. It really depends how much CM is clogging up your cervix at the time and whether they come into contact with it or stay protected in their own fluid.

Hope that helps.

Thanks guys :hugs: You just know when you think 'if i had just.....' :dohh:

Stupid internet!!!... ttc would be much less stressfull if we could just get on with it without looking everything up a million times and reading eight thousand different opinions!! :dohh:

I know what you mean. The internet is bad for looking just about anything up because it scares you!!

I used to read about pregnancy symptoms and sit there almost willing myself to be feeling sick!

Oh hunny :hugs: it's silly some of the things we read on the internet!! All that paragraph is talking about is your CM and basically what we all already know, that EWCM is the perfect living conditions for sperm! And when do we get EWCM? During ovulation period! So i am sure BDing every other day is fine :) surely the sperm would have survived and made it to the egg during Ovulation!!

shame on that site you found!! getting you all worked up like that! :) :hugs:

ha ha! Shame indeed.... thanks samo!

I shall read no more. erm... well maybe just a little bit! :dohh:

Just a FYI, I got my BFP the month we started charting for practice and we BDed 5 days before I Oed and we were not even trying I was just trying to get the hang of charting that month b/c we did not wnat a Dec baby, guess what DD was born in Dec. So I think BDing is OK every other day... I still get crazy if we do not Bd everyother day but with our schedules it is hard to do even that.

GL & stop readint the internet, you shoudl read TAKING CHARGE OF YOUR FERTLITY.

I have heard that every other day is good! Our bodies are all different, so don't get worked up over one thing you read...especially over the internet, anyone can post what they want to on this world wide web (scary). SO YOU RELAX and just enjoy ttc!!! :hugs:
