So I've heard that loosing your mucus plug can be called a show, and loosing it with a bit of blood mixed in is called a bloody show. I thought they basically meant the same thing - that labour is on it's way sometime soon. But - now I'm starting to hear that a person can / should have both before labour. Is this correct?? Can you first loose your mucus plug and then have a bloody show?

Can anyone explain???

From my understanding, You can lose your mucus plug a little at a time from early on, I have been losing mine for about 3 weeks now everyday there is a little and some days there is more, today there was a lot! There is no blood in the mucus plug. But losing your mucus plug does not mean that labor is right around the corner it can still take weeks! I read in a different forum that your mucus plug can actually rebuild itself. Your bloody show is what happens when labor is closer and it is bloody mucus that comes out. Hope this helps a bit I know someone else will know more than me!

I'm sure MAJL is right. That's what I've heard as well. Losing plug can mean that you're dilating, but it replenishes itself so it doesn't mean much, but the bloody show means labor is coming soon.

So can you loose your mucus plug one day and have a bloody show the same day or next day?

but remember some people dont have their "bloody show" untill they are in full blown labour :)

i didnt have a bloody show until my waters broke xx

i read somewhere that when a woman has a bloody show flull blown labor usually starts within 48 hours, unlike mucus plug

My mucus plug looked like bloody snot. My bloody show was a lot of blood and yellow mucus. I had it from August 3rd right up until the 7th when I gave birth x

Oh and my waters didn't break until I started pushing x
