I just think its funny because I look at a lot of names here that people from the UK post and people around here would think I was crazy if I named a baby any of those names.

I LOVE Eva and had a thread about it and everyone said it is SO popular and the like less common names. Makes sense. HOWEVER, here, I NEVER hear the name and it would be original for the area :)

Just too funny what some of us think is too common or strange and in other areas it is not as common and 'normal'.

Anyone else find this? It's fun to come on here and look for names because I hear names like I have never heard before...

Hiya
Yes it is funny to read what is popular or unusual in one place isn't it another...
I always comment on the names that are popular here and then the next person says they've not heard it much.
x

Yes, there are 3 jaydens, 2 aidens, 6 archies, 3 alfies, 2 tylers in my area all of which I didn't think were even that popular!!?

See and I have NEVER heard the names Alfie or Archie except in movies :)

Jayden and Aiden are pretty popular in Canada though!

I got my daughter's name Maya after looking on the web and on here and thought it would not be popular here, but that people would have heard of it, but they hadn't and didn't know how to pronounce it! It is getting more popular now though.

I didnt think Evie was that popular when we named our daughter , Id never heard of another Evie in my area (only one lately, an old college friend who's baby was due day before Maddie). Mind you we had the name Evie picked out since 2004 when I was pregnant with Frankie and back then it wasnt even in the top 50, yet now its in the top 10, or maybe even top 5!. xx

I picked the name Madelyn for my LO as i thought it was so unusual and have never heard of anyone else with the name. It wasn't even in the top 100 girl names in the uk for 2009 but on here everyone seems to think its really popular. I really hope it doesn't get too popular as I like less common names.

Sophie and Amy are very common around here as well as Oliver and Thomas - i have only ever met one Eva x

I have definately noticed that too -- location makes a BIG difference in name choices...

There are alot of names i have seen on here that are common/popular/favorites in the US & the UK -- but then there are alot that are very different styles...

I noticed alot of people on this bnb website is from Uk. The names ive seen are very impressive:thumbup:

No wonder you guys have a hard time making a decision.

And yes I do believe location makes a difference:flower:

Lola seems to be very popular around me right now, as is Logan. For a time it was all Sean, Jack, Ryan and Liam in my area for boys and Ciara, Amy, Shannon and Erin for girls.

Location makes a huge difference. A lot of the names popular in the UK are pretty much unheard of here and seem so odd to me that I would never use them.

I love your sons name!! Gabriel is my back up name and I adore it, but in this area for some reason it seems to be considered feminine and I've had such rude comments about it, but it is in common use overall in Scotland, just apparently not in this particular region. It's so weird how things differ according to area!!

also i love alot of american names but there are some names that would get the 'oooooooo thats very american' comment or would just seem outlandishly strange here but in america could be very popular and not looked at as strange at all.
thats what bums me out cos i dont then want to go using it as there will be more then the usual teasing at school going on. xx

ive noticed on the other tww/preg site i use Audrey for a girl is a fave in the us & canada. Over here id say its unpopular.

Evie/Ava are common in my area :) as are Theo and jack

i love audrey but reminds me of a dog off neighbours and also wil lget alot of comparisons to Audrey Hepburn with her being a very iconic british actress! xx

It's often the US ladies that suggest names I have never heard of!

Popular names where I am are:

Boys - Jacob, Riley & Charlie

Girls - Evie, Holly & Ella

xx

It is strange how the popularity of names is so different in other places!

I really liked the name Isabella Grace for a Girl but its becoming so popular now ive gone off it! I also liked Skye but my mum stole it for my little sister 4 yrs ago!

I know its normal to change your mind serval times but I'm thinking now maybe
Faith or Ivy for a girl
We already have the boys name (cant see that changing) i promised my fiance he could choose it and he picked Thomas James (teejay for short)...

Any ideas for other unusal / unique girls names?

Funny that, because we picked James Thomas for our LO, haha!

I loe the name Ivy, but the OH hates it, so I'd never get it.
We've chosen Molly Mae for a girl, and I've not seen many LO's called Molly these days!

most of the names I hear are Jayden aiden kaden and maddison, addison they are way overused here where I am and I never heard of alfie or archie or callum until getting on this site :)
