I went to the L&D last night for cramping and cervical pains and pressure. They monitored me and i had some contractions but not enough to worry about. They checked me and i am 1/2cm dilated and 50% effaced. I am only 23 weeks today and was wondering if anyone has been in this kind of situation? I have a history of preterm labor and delivery but none were delivered before 32weeks. I tired googling for some info but left me worried and not understanding much. Can this be normal???? I wasnt told to be on bed rest or anything. I am not viable yet which worries me. I go in tomorrow for my weekly progesterone injections and i am going to push my ob for a cerclage. We have been talking about since i became his patient but i think he might be waiting for something to happen before doing it. Would this be enough to get one or is it just nothing to worry about?

Hmm I wasn't that early on .. but from about 30 weeks I was 1cm dilated and 70% effaced. She still refused to come out until 39+6!

I was 27 weeks and was dilated to 1cm and 90% effaced. I never dilated anymore until 34 weeks. It all depends on your body...that was my first pregnancy and we are trying again for another LO at the end of the year. Docs say that I would be considered high risk and it could happen again. Everyone's body is different. Try not to worry or stress. My contractions were stress related and the more I worried, the worse they got. Have they put you on bed rest?

I would just put myself on bed rest for now, it does help. Did they tell you why this is happening? is your cervix short? My obgyn said even if I start dilating, lots of women go for weeks but it's important to stay put until 32-34 weeks.

I would defo be pushing for a cerclage hun. You are a prime candidate. I know you posted this over a week ago, and I hope you're still hanging on.

I was 3cms dilated with membranes bulging at 23wks, and an emergency stitch was placed - it gave my baby another week inside which meant she had a chance. I was told however, that not all consultants will do a stitch if you are already dilating, but mine was willing to take the chance. We did push hard tho - I wouldn't let it go.

Good luck - let us know how you're getting on x

HELLO

I had an emergency cerclage put in at 21 weeks. I was 1cm dilated and 75% effaced. I am now on bed rest for the rest of my pregnancy. 23 weeks is very late for a cerclage and quite risky but I am surprised you are not on bed rest. I would stay off your feet as much as possible and definitely ask your doctor why he has not recommended bed rest. Good luck to you!!
