Discolored chicken? Help!

My SO had brought me home a plain subway sandwich. I got their grilled chicken strips. I microwaved it for a minute so it was steaming (burnt my tongue actually). However, just when I was finished I noticed that two pieces were black. Not all the way through but had black discoloration. It wasn't burnt or grill marks. I'm so upset! I'm normally so careful but he did something sweet so I just thought microwaving it would be fine. I'm so worried. Do you think it was bad chicken? The subway near us is really clean. I don't know what to do.

Chicken doesn't turn black from going bad. It's most likely old, cooked blood. It could also be a byproduct of the processing commercial meats undergo, or from the cooking/heating process.

So is that bad to eat then?

I'd say it's fine. I used to work at Subway and the meat comes fully cooked and frozen, then heated when ordered and then you reheated it.
