Do they have to have 5 bottes a day?!

I dont know where Ive got it into my head that babies NEED to have 5 bottles a day...do they?!

Brandon has 8oz bottles every 4 hours and we have to wake him up for his last bottles, but he normally only takes 3oz...maybe 4oz and I wondered if I should just cut this bottle out! But this would mean he only has 4 bottes a day.

Lucy is only 10 weeks old and she only has 4 bottles a day. I haven't heard about them needing 5 bottles???

Joe has 5 bottles a day, but only because he feeds every 3 hours and so we fit 5 in from when he wakes up til when he goes to bed for the night. We feed on demand, but he has been in a routine of feeding every 3 hours since he was about 6 weeks or so.

I don't think there's a rule that they have to have a certain amount. I've read on here of other LO's having only 4 bottles and others have a few more than that.

I honestly dont know where I got it from that they should be having 5 bottles a day! I thik it might actually be the back of the Aptamil box lol!

Charlie-boy used to feed every 4 hours which meant he was having 6 bottles a day. He gradually cut the 10pm feed out himself which put him down to 5. He has recently just started sleeping through so he has now also cut out the 2am feed so we now only feed him 4 times a day. He is a month into weaning though, so not sure if that helps?

Evie used to have 7 (yes that's 7) 5 oz bottles a day but since she started sleeping thru the night and cut out her 4am feed, she's now down to 6. Occasionally she'll have 5 bottles tho, just depends on the day

my lo has 5bottles a day, usually around every 3hrs, but lately I have been dream feeding his last bottle, cos don't want to cut out this bottle cos he is not putting much weight on!! And Generally doesn't drink much rarely a 5oz bottle and he is 21weeks old, but he does only weigh 11lb 7oz!!

I feed on demand, & I never counted bottles. Anyway, my LO always takes less than the recomended & he's doing great. He's at 90th percentile.

Esmé sometimes has 4 bottles, other times 5 or 6. Just depends what she wants, and she will go 3/4/5 hours between them too.

I saw the 5 bottles thing on the sid of the Aptamil box too! X

it doesnt matter how many bottles a day they have my lo has had 4 bottles a day sice she was 6 weeks old and ive always feed on demand so it doesnt matter what the side of the box says your baby will know if they want more or less

The boxes do give a guideline amount, but I've always gone on the notion that my LO tends to take the rough overall amount - so the box might say 5 x 5oz but my LO took 4 x 6oz bottles or something like that. Your bubs will let you know if she wants more or less!

Thanks very much everyone! I tried him yesterday on just 4 bottles and he seems fine! I last fed him at half 9 last nite and he is still asleep and its now 8.40am!! He clearly doesnt need that last bottle!

as long as baby is getting enough- they will let u know if they r not!!

anna is 3 wks so i suppose its different as she is much younger.

we feed on demand.

she takes 8-10 bottles a day each 2-3oz - rather than the 6 feeds a day of 4oz as on the aptamil tub
