I have been told my my HV that I should also give my LO about 2oz of water everyday. Apparantly formula fed babies require this. But i have noticed that whenever I go to see her now its either yes you should give them water or no its not required unless they constipated. Do you give your LOs water daily?

I have only given it once when LO was constipated, other than that I don't give it, I heard you weren't supposed to unless constipated or in very hot weather xx

I've been told if they're refusing their milk bottle but are fussing for something, to give them some cooled, boiled water as they might just be thirsty. I did it for the first time today actualy, I put 4oz in a bottle and he had about half an ounce and quieted down so it must work

heya, i was in the same situation! My health visitor recommended me to give my LO water! although at the time it was hot weather and he was getting consitpated! saying that i do give my LO water everyday nw just to prevent him being constipated again!

My son has cooled boiled water everyday. I give him about half an ounce and wind him before each feed through the day, not with his first or last feed of the day though. My HV told me this would help keep his bowels moving should he get constipated. He is just over 5 weeks old and has been on water before feeds for about 3 weeks now

My LO wont take water atall, did try but she refused point blank

My midwife told me to give H some if he was waking between feed's and rooting for food as he could just be thirsty. He only has like half a oz tho and not every day

My MIL told me that you're supposed to give them a drink during the day,my HV said they dont need it.Personally I do try him on a few ounces of cooled boiled water during the day,it has to be warm though or he won't touch it!

I have been giving Ollie water when he was waking between feeds and it works he has about 1oz a day

Yeah I do, I give Jessica about 1oz-2oz of cooled boiled water a day

We live in a hot climate, so here it's normal to give a baby water separate from their feeds. I give my LO about 5oz of water each day. Also, my LO is being very fussy with her feeds at the moment, and some days she won't exceed 15oz (when before she would have up to 30oz), so I have been told to make sure she gets enough water to take her fluid intake up past 20oz. So if she only has 15oz per day in formula, I should give an additional 5oz of water, just to keep her hydrated. Like I said, we live in a hotter climate; not sure what the advice would be in the uK

I have down in the past when Aliyah has been constipated or if shes crying and i cant think of any other reason i might try her with an ounce of water and it sometimes does work x

I only gave Omar water when we started weaning & only few sips wit his meals. at 8 mnths he was only taking 1-1.5 oz. Just recently he started to go for 3-4 oz. Formula is 70-80% water & they dont need water before weaning & esp when they start taking animal protien. Before weaning fluids they'r getting from formula r enough to keep them well hydrated. Introducing extra water is filling at an early age, & might mess up with the formula quantites they'r taking. Unless ur LO is constipated or it's too hot, u dont need to offer water. xx

I haven't done yet. Our HV said to do it if she becomes constipated. x

Formula contains enough hydration as well as food so there is no need to give them water

Jayden has it every day, otherwise he would have his milk every hour Lol

I dont, unless she is constipated or very hot.

Water can take the place of milk (formula or BM) & introducing more water can also stop their bodies from absorbing nutirents from milk & might lead to an imbalance of electrolytes.

So unless they's dehydrated or constipated it's better not to introduce water before weaning

I thought it was only if they were dehydrated from Hot weather and/constipation, otherwise you are filling up their tummies with liquid with no benefit.

The hv told me to give it Jayden rather than giving him milk all the time because he's gaining weight really quickly, he still drinks about 36oz of milk a day, and about 4oz of water, maybe he's just greedy :P
