It is difficult smiley, like you say when you live in an area you learn who is genuine and who is not but if you're new to an area or someone new comes along then it can be hard. Tbh I would rather give something to someone who is not genuine than ignore someone who is really in need.
Like I said earlier in the thread though, even if you can't/don't want to then even a few minutes of your day talking to someone costs nothing and means so much. If you spend just those few minutes, you soon realise that they are (mostly) treated like they are either invisible or scum. If I were in that position I would want someone to show me a little kindness and compassion even if they didn't want to hand over money!
