I have just posted this in the FF secion but thought i would see if any of you ladies have any tips aswell....

I have been thinking whilst lying awake most of the night, what to do for the night feed and warming it up or even keeping it warm. What do you do? I dont really want to come downstairs to warm a bottle up in the middle of the night - one reason being, i want minimal disturbance and two, i dont really want to have a crying baby for too long in the middle of the night.

Is there something so simple that i just cant think about doing? What do you ladies do for the night feed? x

With my 1st i used to have a bottle warmer near my bed back then u could make up 6 bottles in the morning to last but now they reckon to make them up as u go along..with my youngest i always boiled the kettle before i went bed poored it in the bottle and just leave the water in there to cool down then i always fed her room temp & never heated the bottles up so even when i was out she was always used to it room temp. Some people have different veiws but i'll be doing the same with this one. it didnt do no harm.. there was nothing worse being in town with a hungry baby wondering how to heat my bottle and late at night cooling them down.

I would take a tray up and put it on my bedside table. It would have my bottle warmer, one or two bottles of cooled boiled water(depending on whether I planned to do the morning feed there too) formula in a little formula divider, a muslin and whatever else I normally used.

The minute baby started stirring I'd pop the bottle warmer on and if I didn't need it immediately, it seemed to stay warm for a while.

That said, you may be lucky in that your baby might be happy to take milk at room temperature and then you won't even need to think about it!

With my first who was FF, I kept a flask of hot water and a jug by my bed, found it heated it up very quickly whereas those bottle warmers always seemed to take forever!

yeah i am hoping he will take it at room temp but not all babys will do they. My friend wanted to feed at room temp for easiness but baby point blank refused it bless. Just want a back up plan for if my little man refuses room temp too.
I do have a bottle warmer but am worried that will take a little long to warm up.

Also, i have thought of using a flask, would you just sterlise this in the sterliser??

When we started to Ff at night.. Or if OH did a night feed whilst I was BF. We used to take a bottle of pre boiled water, jug, hot water in a flask, and formula measured already in a dispenser.

We found it better because there wasn't any chance of measuring out the wrong amount of formula when feeling sleepy and also it's more sterile than making a feed up before bed x

Fabby - the flask should be fine if you are using it to warm the bottle XX

ive got a lindam day and night feeding system and love it! havent long stopped using it for my lil girl xx

we used one for our last, couldnt recommend it enough, the little light on it was just enough to see by without waking me and baby too much. and the freezer pack means the milk is kept cold til its needed to be warmed. def thumps up from me.

making bottles is worrying me, there seems to be so many different opinions! im hoping to feed at room temp too if baby will take it. ive been told when you boil the water and pour it in to the bottle you need to cool it quickly to stop bacteria forming, then when its cool put in fridge. if i want to feed at room temp tho would i have to remember to take it out of fridge early to warm up, or does it not actually need to go in fridge in first place?! help!!

Yep that's pretty much it!! That's why I'm gunna try and breastfeed again even if it's just at night. Bottles are a bloody nightmare! :nope:

We would fill bottles with boiling water last thing and put them in out advent thermal bag and premeasure the powder into a devider. By the time baby woke for the first feed it would be pretty much cool enough if not a min under the cold tap would sort it but that was only if he woke within 3 hours. The second bottle after 6 hours in the bag would be perfect so all u have to do is add the powder from the dispenser

i used to have a little rapid boil kettle and a jug handy.. when baby started stirring, i used to flick it on, min later boiled, put it into jug, place bottle in, change baby bottom and then it would usually be just right for feeding.
i got that tip off my big sis, as she found it easier to have a mini rapid boil kettle.. and the water that you pour into jug to warm bottle up, you can just pour straight back into the kettle.

I did use to run downstairs and boil the kettle and then fetch the jug of water back up with the bottle out of the fridge. Im thinking of setting up a table and a comfy chair in the nursery (which we wont be using for a while) and having my mini fridge and bottle warmer etc set up. I am having a section though so I dont know if this will make it harder work or easier?
If I decide against that, I have a tommee tippee travel flask which is a thermos flask but also has a tub which is screwed over the top of it which you can warm the bottle in. I think its a great idea and will be used alot when I go out with LO as most places dont even give you hot water anymore!

Re boiled water and made up formula. If the bottle is freshly sterilised and the water boiled once then you can store for up to 3 days in the fridge. Made up milk at room temp 2 hours max. Chilled milk made from powder 12 hours but in all cases only reheat once

Definate thumbs up for a powder dispenser!! They are good for keeping snacks in too when babe is older!

Good question! Is the reason you have to rapid cool it down is for get rid of any bacteria then? I was just hoping i could just fill my bottles for the day and leave on the side to serve at room temperature (if he will drink it at room temp)
Failing that, i was still going to prepare my bottles with the water, leave on the side and then warm up when needed. Didnt want to put n the fridge because of it taking longer to warm up x

you know, this is all bloody confusing for me now, lol, 8yrs ago, it was completely different, 4yrs ago, it had changed again... now its changed again! i havent been able to do the same thing with my kids bloody once! lol

i was googling this yesterday, and interesting theroy i found was to (for example a 7oz bottle) make a feed with boiled water and power up to the 5oz bit, and then put in a cooler bag and take up to bed, make a flask of bpiled water and take that up to bed, and then when its time to feed baby make the other 2oz up with the boiled water, this should make it warm

obviously i havnt had my baby yet so i have no idea if this will work with us but i thought i would share, i hope you know what i mean

you can sterilize the flask with the steralizing tablets cant you??

xx
