Do you have a tip for warming the night feed up?

you know, this is all bloody confusing for me now, lol, 8yrs ago, it was completely different, 4yrs ago, it had changed again... now its changed again! i havent been able to do the same thing with my kids bloody once! lol

Lol tell me about it drove me nuts with my last. DH is a hygene freak so he does a lot of reading up on it

Thanks everyone. I have just found that Tommee Tippee do a flask kind of thing which you can keep your bottle in and it will stay warm - only £9.99 so seems like a good buy x

my son is bf mostly but now has ff at night as he sleeps longer and what i do is take 2 empty bottles, my powder dispenser and a thermos with boiled water in, by time my son wakes up the water has cooled so i just pour it into the bottle, add the powder and feed, dont even have to leave my bed :)

I have bought the tommy tippee flask that I hope will last us through the night x

we have a kettle in our bedroom!! flick kettle on as soon as we hear him and sit bottle in jug of hot water to warm it up  x

my freind had the bottled water for baby's i think you can get it in babies r us and she would mix it with the formula and her baby always fed at room temperture luckily!

always had a bottle warmer next to bed and just used it when needed it ..........

Good question! Is the reason you have to rapid cool it down is for get rid of any bacteria then? I was just hoping i could just fill my bottles for the day and leave on the side to serve at room temperature (if he will drink it at room temp)
Failing that, i was still going to prepare my bottles with the water, leave on the side and then warm up when needed. Didnt want to put n the fridge because of it taking longer to warm up x[/QUOTE]

fabby both of these ways are not safe, you cannot leave made up formula on the side for more than 2 hours it will not be sterile anymore.

you cannot leave bottles with water on the side either you must put the formula in when the water temp is 70c (About 15 mins after water is boiled) as formula powder is not sterile and the hot water kills the bacteria in it.
Then cool bottle down with cold water and use within 2 hours or put in the fridge for later (though latest advice is to make up each feed as needed and not to store in fridge)

These guidelines are to protect your baby from getting sick from bacteria. I would ask your mw to give you some information on the correct way to prepare formula as she will have the most up to date advice (or should have) failing that there is an article here that sums up what I have told you.

Thank you very much :flower:
I was reading what mums are doing in the formula feeding section on this forum and everyone seems to be doing different things which all seem ok to do because they are saying that their babies are just fine. Guidelines are always changing arn't they. I will read through that link you have shared with me  x

how do you know the water is 70 degrees? x

you could make formula for all the bottles for the next day the night before and put it in the fridge then warm them up when needed

i found this site useful to

Wouldnt be able to this though if you serve at room temperature can we? x

I know it can be really confusing knowing the right thing to do! however the link I showed is the NHS current advice and will be most up to date, as for knowing if it is 70c or not you could use a thermometer (A bit ott i know lol) or it says don't leave more than 30 mins without using formula so personally if I were formula feeding I would add the formula at 15-25 mins. :-)

what procedure do ladies follow when serving the bottle at room temperature? x

I have a plug in bottle warmer it has an ice pack to leave two bottles cold in the back and then a warmer in the front which only takes seconds to heat up.

With Poppy i used to make up 6 feeds at a time and keep them in the fridge. I know it isn't what is recommended but when my hv came to see us once Poppy was out of hospital she said although she had to advise me to make feeds up one at a time so long as they were kept in the coldest part of the fridge and not used if over 24 hours old they should be ok. What i had was a bottle warmer with a compartment at the back for 2 bottles, the compartment was insulated and had an ice pack in to keep bottles cold. There was then the warming part at the front. Worked for us. You could also keep made up bottles in a small cool box by the bed and have a kettle in your room for warming? x

well the only thing i can think of is my best friend she buys the bottled water for baby's that has the chlouride in it cause some waters dont and she pours the powder with room temp water and the baby always takes it

Ava wont drink room temp milk so I take up 3 bottles with the right amount of boiled cooled water in and you can get some small plastic pots from a pound shop, measure out the right amount of formula per pot for each bottle and we have a tommee tippee bottle warmer that warms up in 4 minutes from room temp got it of ebay fr £10.

Then you can just add the formula to the bottle when needed and stick it in te warmer as baby is stirring x

you can also do this when going out and about its much easier and the milk doesnt go off x
