I am expecting triplets which are due to be delivered at 34 weeks via csection.

I've heard a lot about the steroid injections to help mature babies lungs but does everyone have to have them? Ill obviously have them if they help but I've heard so many horror stories about how painful they are its a little worrying !!! Lol

X

i think its highly advised to, not for u but for the babies more so x

I have heard many stories where woman injected with the steroids brought their babies home earlier than those who did not get the chance to. If I were you I would go ahead and get the induction. It does help mature their lungs so they are able to breathe better on their own.

My OH wouldn't be alive today if he weren't one of the first babies in Canada to receive a steroid injection for his premature lungs - I wouldn't take the chance of saying no

Horror stories???? I had the steroid injections when I was 29wks as high risk for another premmie. It was just two small injections given 24hrs apart in the top of your thigh, doesn't hurt at all, area was a little tender for about an hour after but definitely not painful, barely uncomfortable.
The steroids do wonders for early babies lungs would definitely recommend getting it if you little ones are coming out at 34 wks.

I doubt they can force you. But highly recommended when babies are born before full term. I've heard they are painful, but of course the reason for them makes it worth it.

Thanks ladies :)

Ill definatly be having them when their offered ! Does anyone know if your x amount of weeks when their done ???

We were to late with my daughters premature arrival to give the injection, but my god if I had had the chance I would have taken it as I am convinced her development and recovery would have been so much faster.

The last organ to fully develop is the lungs, and the steroids job is to ensure there is plenty of surfactant on the lungs.

Do a bit of research but I would certainly say the benefits to your babies far out way the risks to you.

They like to give them within 2wks of baby(ies) being born. They are fully effective 12 hrs after 2nd jab.
Hope that helps.

i had them at 26weeks with LO and they were okay not too pleasant but what injections are? x

If my LO's lungs are underdeveloped and I get a chance at the steroids, I'd go for it. Seeing that I've been on some type of steroidal medication for the past few years to help keep my lungs going (severe COPD) and knowing the success I've had with that, I believe that steroids would work. And if my OB thinks it's necessary, then it's the right path for me (as I doubt my OB would try to give LO drugs that would harm him).

My lo is being delivered at any point in the next 5 weeks. Already discussed steroids with my consultant. Definetely recommended if going to be here early. They told me once you've had the injection they like to deliver within a week as that's when they're most effective and they'll either give them in your bum, or in your thigh. They told me it'll be just like any other injection, so I imagine they'll sting a bit, and that a lot of women develop flu like symptoms for a few days afterwards x

I would personally get the injection. I doubt anyone will force you to get one. but you run the risk of their lungs not being developed enough to sustain life unattached from the placenta. They may also be just fine at 34 weeks... Good luck hun...triplets... you are going to have your hands full! But still so exciting!!

I have just had to have 2 of these injections, one yesterday and one today ...they do hurt a little bit,i had them one in either arm though they said i could .I went for a growth scan yesterday and they are a bit worried in case baby dont grow in the next 4 weeks so doc said he might induce me,he never said when though, thats why ive been given the injections,i have to go back on monday for a 'doppler' scan as she said she check the blood flow from the cord, which was fine on friday,so maybe i'll know more then x

I had them done at 29 weeks because I was in preterm labor. They gave me one in each hip/butt area. The first one didnt hurt at all. Felt really cold. The second one stung but I didnt even say ouch. Its not that bad I promise. I hate shots and needles and I handled it :) Im not looking forward to getting another shot though. I think dh and I will be getting the tdap shots before we come home from the hospital on friday. Good Luck hun :)

Weighing the risk of having babies with potentially under-developed lungs versus a very temporary sting seems like it should be an easy no-brainer to me.

I had the steroid shots at 31 weeks. It stung a bit, but so does getting a tetanus shot. I am sure that birth and recovery hurts a whole lot more.

It feels like any other shot you get. A little sting with the initial poke but honestly if you are going to have a c section and get the shots right before that then you won't notice the injection site at all. You will have a surgical incision that hurts far worse than the shots did.

I had the injections at 32 weeks as they thought i was going into preterm labour, the injections does sting when the fluid goes in but it was to help my baby so a few minutes of pain is worth it.

surely your dr would advise you if you had to have them didnt think you could choose to have them done

I had them a week or so ago and tbh they were no more painful than the flu vaccination I got. I didnt even bruise!

I had them at 25 weeks, and i did find them quite painful - maybe because i wasn't expecting it to hurt at all!

Definitely worth it though, as i think it really puts your mind at rest
