Do you premake your formula then store in the fridge?

scorching the milk kills the nutrients, thats what i ment.

Yes, I read somewhere too that using boiling water that hasn't been allowed to cool for 20 mins or so, kills nutrients like Vit C in the milk.

There are so many conflicting things about making up formula feeds that it's hard to know what to do for the best! After doing some research, it seemed to me that the safest way to premake was to boil the kettle, leave to cool for 20 mins or so, add the formula, rapid cool and store in the back of the fridge for up to 24 hours (although with my LO feeding often at the moment, they aren't in there for half that time) and then just reheat when needed.

I make them up one at a time as it says on the tin. I leave the water to cool for between 20-30 mins them cool quickly in a pan of iced water. I've never stored them. I used cartons at night and when I am out.

What i dont get is here most of the tins of formula say to add the powder to cooled, boiled water?

Yet on here and elsewhere online some are saying it has to be added to boiled water cooled to around 70 degrees to kill the bacteria. And on the tin i got after i left hospital (as my LO had a few formula feeds due to BF problems), was the only one that said to add powder to boiled water cooled to a lukewarm temp??

Soo confusing for mums!

So which is it.....surely if the manufacturers say add to cooled boiled water it doesnt have to be at a hot temp to kill bacteria?

I don't do any of these. I half fill a bottle with cooled boiled water. Boil the kettle when I need it, top it up to the right level then add the powder.

That's exactly what i do xx

I boil the kettle, cool for 30 mins then make up the bottles and store in the fridge for the next day (no longer than 24 hours). At first, I made up each bottle fresh but now I am back at work, I have to make them up beforehand xx

^ do u cool before storing in the fridge?

If so how long do you cool for?

And how do you cool??

I'm confused about this too, i boil the jug and fill the bottles with boiling water and then put them in the sink with cold water. Once they have cooled right down i add the powder, shake them and put them at the back of the fridge and use within 24 hours

So u add the powder too cooled boiled water! Im so confused lol.

No. You wait a max of 30mins after the kettle has boiled (the water should still be hot, if not do it sooner) the water has to be above 70. You wait to avoid scalding yourself, killing the nutrients in the milk and breaking your bottles. Then fill to the required level, add powder to steralise, shake, rapid cool in cold water then store at the back of the fridge and use within 24 hours x

Ok then why do all the brands we have here (s26, sma, karicare etc) say to add the powder to cooled boiled water if it needs to be at a certain temp to kill bacteria?? :)

maybe your is different to ours. Ours says to wait about 30mins and that the powder is not sterile.

^^wss - this is the way WHO recommends to premake bottles and so I follow this method
