MIL mentioned that she did this, it didn't occur to me as sleepsuits already have feet with them. I suppose it depends on the baby, the time of year etc. ?

I never thought of this! Interested in seeing other's opinions.

We did this occasionally when it was cold. You just have to make sure that the feet part of the sleep suit is big enough to accommodate socks on as well, or else their feet will get cramped.

I always put them on under baby grows :) unless was warm x

I always had a hard time finding any socks that stayed on those tiny feet. We didn't use socks with sleepers, but I would consider it if I noticed baby was getting cold feet.

I would if it's very cold. I've seen me stick them over the outside (rather than on the inside) for added warmth. The best socks to stay on are a brand called Trumpette. They look like shoes (ballet, Mary Janes, football boots etc) and never fall off!

I never thought of doing this. When it was cold with my daughter I just popped a pair of booties or slippers on her.

I put socks over the sleepsuit if it was cold, also that way if they get too warm they are easy enough to take off.

You can also buy something called Sock-ons. They go on over the sock and keep the socks on, even when pulled. They were a godsend for us. We used them up until about a year xx

Weird, I have never done this or thought to lol if it was that cold I'd wrap baby in a blanket.

Here is france you do. The midwives do it. They put onsie on plus socks plus baby sleepsuit plus booties and cardigan over the top and hat. Baby only has booties and cardigan on for two days after birth then it's just onesie, socks, and sleepsuit. Here natural brith is 3-4 days in hospital and c section is 6-8 days. I had a c section and was scared the midwives would think I was dirty so I had whole outfits for each of the 8 days. That was 8 pairs of everything plus extra since mother in law tried to air my baby's bum out even though I told her to go away and stop under mining my parenting already. She pissed on her hahaha blessed day that was. Oh and she was born in hot summer too. I was dying from the heaters being at 37!!! I think france is a bit over kill when it comes to newborns and pregnancy.

I wouldnt. I mean you wouldnt put sock under (or over) tights

I won't be putting socks on, unless baby starts fussing. My midwife when my son was born said a cold baby will let you know it's cold, a hot baby won't let you know it's hot. It'll just get sleepy and overheat. I was advised that a hat should be added for extra warmth, and taken off indoors as baby doesn't need a hat in room temp. And to put them in as many layers as an adult to be comfortable. I know I never double layer my feet, so I probably won't for baby. Just a sleep suit and a blanket for my wee one.

No, I never have done. I keep the house at a comfortable temperature so LO shouldn't need any extra warmth on his/her feet. If it's particularly cold and I'm going out without the car I would possibly put soft booties on over the top of the sleepsuit but when DD was very young I put her in a pramsuit most of the time when we went out so she was always toasty :)

It's never occured to me to do this, my ds was a winter baby and was always absolutely fine - an extra blanket if it was cold. I was also told that a cold baby will let you know but a hot one won't.

I have never thought of doing this, the idea seems a bit strange to me. Never did it with DS and don't have any plans of doing it this time round with DD either

I did it if cold or heading out instead of shoes. Just popped them on over the top to make removing easy as only on when really cold etc

Also supportive of sock ons. Will be buying some this time if noone gives them as gift.

I live in the desert of Arizona so I won't be doing this lol!

Optimal temperature for a baby is 18-21C and if we were anywhere much colder than that I just popped a blanket on over her. Id be worried about baby over heating if they had socks on under a footed sleep suit.

I did with my son, and with him being in a sleeper it helped keep the socks on. He was born in Feb, and it was still cold for about another month or so after he was born, so I did so his feet kept warm. He even had a onesie on as well. I just made sure he wasn't running warm. This was much easier than putting another blanket on because he hardly kept the one I had on him, on.

I'm due with Pickle in Nov, so I plan on doing the same thing, especially since I have all winter.

^ Agree! Never ever heard that. Ive had 2 winter babies never put socks on underneath.

In house just put blanket over them. Going out usually go in all in one, id think that feet probably get too hot.
