Do you take your pram

Never taken my pram, didnt have too many bags and we managed - usually you find the mum's carrying all the bags while the dad's carrying the baby! I think with ds oh took most of the bags into the car and then came back for me and the baby. Depends if you have a CS as well I suppose. Re the carseat thing, if your carseat fits on your pram then that solves that problem.

I've never seen anyone bring their pram!

Your OH would have to go out to the car to go and get the pram anyway so he'd be just as well taking the bags out to car instead and coming back for you, baby and carseat. I very very much doubt that the hospital would allow you to bring the pram in while in labour due to space/security issues!

Plus the MWs would want to see your carseat and ensure that baby is correctly strapped in etc. so you would have to bring the carseat inside anyway.

If you have a carseat that clips onto frame you could always use that but your OH would still have to go out to the car and get it when he'd be just as well quickly dropping bags into the car lol.

If it's really far you'd be better to wait at entrance with baby in carseat while OH brings the car round.

Are you at WRH? If so, I know what you mean about the car park - your car may be in A & E!

Personally, I think that if the car seat clips onto the pram base it's a really good idea - if it is that hospital there will be plenty of room to manouvere it around. I've never seen a midwife escorting parents out with the baby there, I think they just let you get on with it once discharged.

Bearing in mind what the parking is like there, your other half probably won't be able to get the car round to the front as that's usually rammed too!

yeah Im at WRH, there isn't a seperate entrance for the maternity ward and the parking isn't great! Im hoping I will be heading there after 'office hours' cos the parking is a nightmare! but then again, we will be leaving during 'office hours' so I imagine taking the pram is a good idea! especially if you say the MW just let you go when we're discharged and dont take you out to the car!

Very good point, if he has to head out to get the pram, then he might as well take the bags!

I'm certain you don't get escorted to the entrance - in all my visits to and from that part of the hospital I've never seen couples with their new baby being accompanied out.

I can't speak from experience because Daisy was transferred to Birmingham so I left on my own

Out of office hours, the car park is fab, although it's still a bit of a trek accoss the main concourse to the lavender wards when in labour ;)

I honestly think with that hospital in mind, taking the pram with seat would be a really good idea - I'd pinch it myself if I hadn't traded my lovely single travel system in for a very practical double!

Let me know if you want me to double check anything for you cos my cousin has just had her 1st there and so should be able to let me know the latest info.

We won't be. DH will take all the bags down 1st and bring the car round, m/w and I will bring Boo down and meet him.

I dont know if it is the same in any of your hospitals but here in bolton we are banned from taking prams near the maternity unit as it poses a security risk...They have this rule to minimise the chances of a baby being kidnapped from the unit, so i woud check with your midwife before to be honest hunni xx

here in the us, when you are ready to go home, they force you to be brought all the way down in a wheel chair. will NOT let you walk which so irritated me last time. i was ready to run out. but they place the baby in your arms. and it's kind of like your moment to shine as you are wheeled out. then when you get to the car, the nurse puts the baby into the car seat with you. they want to see it and it is their policy that you do not leave until the nurse has the baby securely in the seat and ready. in our hospital they have these big cart things for you to wheel all of your stuff to the car. kind of like at a hotel.
