i went to the baby doctor today and the nurse took my weight, blood pressure, and tested my urine. when i saw the doctor i told him about the pain i'd been having in my back, and sometimes diarrhea paired with tummy cramping. he told me it was normal and the vitamins should help (which they obviously don't because i've been taking them since i found out i was pregnant). he then listened to the baby's heartbeat for about 5 seconds, told me it was good, then that was it. am i wrong for thinking he should be a bit more involved, maybe asking questions and measuring my belly or something? this is my first baby, so i'm not too sure what i should be expecting out of the doctors appointments. i'm 24 weeks and 5 days along, and i feel like it's kind of late to switch doctors, but i also feel like he should be doing a little bit more than he is. opinions anyone?

They didn't start measuring my belly til 32 weeks I think. The appointments never really do consist of much, they will check the heartbeat, check your urine and answer any questions you have. Once you get further along they will measure/feel your belly and do internal exams.

All doctors are different my doctor for my son measured my belly from 16 weeks, this doctor hasn't. Also it's just job to bring things up if you have a question or a concern don't wait for them to ask you just say it when they walk in. They are busy and alot of doctors are just focused on getting the appointments done as bad as it sounds. They have so many people to look at each day its no wonder they forget things.

That sounds like a very normal appointment to me.

I'm using midwives in my practice, there's two of them, and they're spotty on when they measure my fundal height. One did it at 25 weeks, a doctor did it at 29 weeks and then the other midwife did it at 32 weeks. Generally they can site it and see if everything is checking out okay.

The most important thing to do is ask questions if you have them. The doctor will rely on you to bring up issues regarding you, they're not mind readers!

My doctor started measuring when I was at 28 weeks and she feels my belly a little. Other then that she will just bring up and talk to me about my blood work and things that we need to get done and then ask if I have any questions.

They also check my weight, blood pressure, urine, and then take my blood (sadly it has been taken every single time I have gone and more lol).

I think it is helpful that my mom comes in with me because if I forget something and the doctor forgets something then my mom will remember it.

Sounds like a standard appointment hun

I started getting my belly measured from 26 weeks. x

It does sound like a normal appointment, but if you're not happy with your doctor on an emotional level then maybe you should try a midwife?? I switched from a dr to a midwife at 28 weeks, and I like the midwives soo much better. I might not care so much if this wasn't my first pregnancy, but I really needed someone who listened to me and was there to connect more on an emotional level.

yeah, maybe i should look into midwives. this is my first baby too, and i suppose i am looking for that emotional level from a medically experienced person. thanks everyone! =)
