Ladies, this might get little long but, please advice me.

I went in to doctor because, I am having horrible cold and cough and wanted to get info about scan. The good news is I am gonna get one in 10days time but, he was kinda freaked and surprised that we started conceiving so soon(had bo in September). He said they normally suggest to wait for a year because the batch of ovum might give bo again and hence the long wait. But, I have never come across such information anywhere. Has anyone of you heard about this? He also gave me bunch of antibiotic because, my cold is really horrible and said that it is ok to take it in early gestation stage(may be placenta is not developed yet that's why?).

He also said that after scan he will start thinking about starting progrestrone, which doesn't make any sense. I don't have any lining issue which I know of and my Japan doc suggested that there is no way I can have progrestrone deficiency because I carried my dd without any problem. I am kinda confused. But, one thing is for sure I won't take anything unless I see low numbers on my reports which he might take.
No sex was a surprising one but, I am away from hubby so that doesn't matter as of now. I really feel he is overthinking? I just need to see my baby and that is it. won't even go to him after scan report but, still makes me wonder what he might be thinking?

That is kind of strange. I tried and got pregnant again 5 months after D&C. I had a blighted ovum as well. Grant it I am very unsure about this pregnancy, but I don't see why you have to wait a whole year. I've seen the baby on ultrasound and is definitely not a blighted ovum

Thanks alot for reply. You give me hope.
One of friend also said similar thing which confuses me.

I've never heard of this. I always understood a blighted ovum to be a random, isolated event and unlikely to happen again. I'm also not sure what your doctor means by a "batch" of ovum? It's not like our ovaries produce eggs like they're packaged at the store...

There is such different advice about waiting to conceive after a loss. I miscarried at 6 weeks and my doctor told me to wait one cycle. I panicked when I ended up pregnant again immediately, but he then told me that the advice to wait was mostly so they could date the new pregnancy more easily. It's been stressful, but things seem to be going well. Hopefully they will for you too.

Rhiannon, that's exactly what I was thinking and I am gonna ask him same during my visit in ten days. It's odd statement but, may be just may be he is right gives me extra stress. anyways I am just gonna just blaNk out his statement for some days.

oh and Congratulations on your pregnancy.

Also, a blighted ovum IS not solely dependant on the quality of egg. The sperm has to be of good quality too and men are constantly creating new sperm

That's a load of horse pucky. I've had at least 4 blighted ovums (probably 5 but we weren't able to confirm the 5th one) and I've seen 4 different doctors about my recurrent loss issues with all of them aware of my BOs but I've NEVER had one tell me that a BO will lead to another BO. In fact, I got my bfp for DS just 9 weeks after a suspected blighted ovum, DD was conceived 4 months after a blighted ovum, and I got my bfp with LO just 5 weeks after I had my 4th confirmed blighted ovum loss. Not to mention, I've had several losses but I've never had 2 in a row.

Dairymomma , I am sorry for your losses. Thanks for your opinion. I was actually very surprised to hear such things and I am going to ask shit lots of questions in my next visit. I searched and searched but, as you said there is no evidence of such statement.

Rei, yes true but whichever doctor I have visited seems to think it's only because of eggs. I know it's not true but, probably because both were males they were biased?

I'd totally get a second opinion. I had to wait a while but my loss was in the third trimester. Seems fishy to me.

Wishing you feel better, good luck

Thanks babybearsmom. I definitely will. But, problem is I don't have any other options till march start. So just have to get scan done and that's it.

The problem with recurrent miscarriage is not many doctors understand it because it's been a hidden issue up until more recent years so there's not much research that's been done thus far. I'm running up against outdated thinking even with my specialist who is a trained OBGYN with a background in recurrent loss/infertility issues so I'm being referred to another doctor to learn more about a genetic condition I just found out I have. I guess not even doctors who are supposed to know more are infallible.

dairymomma, seems like you have been through alot. I really hope the genetic issue gets resolved and you find answers to your situation.

Sorry to come in late. I had a blighted ovum pregnancy for which I had a D&C. I got pregnant again 4.5 months after D&C and it was a successful, full term pregnancy. Never heard anything like waiting this long to ttc again. My doctor had told me I could start ttc again as soon as I got my period post D&C. Now I did take progesterone in my first trimester, but that was more of a precaution as I'd had low progesterone first time around. If you don't feel comfortable taking it, you can always decline it. Not sure if you've already found out what's going on with this pregnancy, but I hope all is well! Good luck and keep us posted!

Hey christie,

I had my scan and baby was bang on time. I never went to that doctor yet because, I don't feel comfortable going to him. Meanwhile I am searching for other.
