Hi Everyone - Hope you're all doing well!
Arrrgh Although I go to sleep everynight lying on my side with my bump supported by a pillow, I keep waking up on my back!!

At first I wasn't too worried by this because a) what can I do? this happens in my sleep and b) I've never felt dizzy or anything on wakeing from sleeping this way! However I've just read somewhere that it can restrict oxygen supply to the baby and naturally I'm panicking that I may have done some damage :(

Does anyone have the same problem and/or know if I'm likely to have damaged the baby!? c xxxxx

I do this every night, I have a Dreamgenii pillow which is meant to prevent you from rolling onto your back... dream on! I wind up on my back every night (and not in the good way). I've never felt lightheaded or anything, baby's heartbeat is still A-OK so I'm not too worried. I'm more worried that it takes me like 10 minutes and lots of grunting/huffing and puffing to turn over onto my side!

yep me!! i always end up on my back every night! x

.... and not in a good way! hee hee that made me laugh! Oh well, I'm glad to hear I'm not alone... logically it's got to be pretty common! arrgh I just keep finding new things to worry about! LOL! c x

yup. i do and then i wake up and wonder how ive been on my back. Then i find myself laying there waitting to feel some kinda movement before i can relax again to fall asleep lol

Nightmare.

Im sure everything is ok. I mean, if it was that dangerous, im sure in the olden days when there wasnt so much informationabout, the worlds population would have been affected lol

x

me me me !! :haha: i find it impossible to always remain on my left side! As much as i try too it just dosnt happen , you would think the heavyness would weight me down and keep me anchored but no such luck !! Have baby's heart rates checked regularly and thier all A ok too ! xx

I have 2 pregnancy pillows, 2 normal pillows and I still wake up on my back!

its impossible not too isn't it! LOL - surely it cant hurt the baby as a rule? not with so many of us doing it!!!??

I knnow its so annoying! as if there wasnt enough things to worry about grrr..... x

I worried about position my first pregnancy but this time around I am all about getting as much sleep as I can to prepare for the newborn phase and so sleep on whatever side is most comfortable as long as I am not winded by it or dizzy, which I am not.

So back, right or rarely left (since it makes me nauseous), I sleep in whatever way I can sleep.

I am amazed so many of you can still lie on their backs, especially SummerLily with the triplets cause when I try it, my two boys seem to crush the life and breath out of me. My heart starts beating weirdly too and I just need to turn to my side as soon as I can. This involves a lot of effort now. I wish I could lie on my back though cause my hips are killing me and so are both my arms. I have carpal tunnel in both hands now though worse in the left and I just know it is cause the nerves all along my arms are involved and not just my wrists. If I could lie on my back I am sure I'd give those nerves a much needed rest :(

Every night this happens, I always wake up during the night and finding I have turned onto my back, before I got pregnant I always slept on my side lol.

I wake up on my back and my belly all the time!!!' I do try and sleep on my my left side but i move a lot!!!!

Xxxxxxx

me! and the most annoying part is I never slept on my back before getting pregnant, I found it really uncomfortable...now that I'm not supposed to I wake up like it every night  I've decided to stop worrying about it too much, midwives have never mentioned it and it's not in my pregnancy books so it can't be that dangerous =) x

Yep I wake up in the night to find me on my back so I turn on side wait for baby to move fall asleep and then repeat this about 4/5 times at least during the night. It drives me crazy but what else can we do ay xx

I often wake up on my back. Just can't help it sometimes :) Sometimes both hips hurt sooooo bad, that my back is my only option!

Only way I'm truly relaxed and comfortable is on my back! Always wake up on my back despite the squillions of pillows!

I wouldn't worry about it, how can you help something you do in your sleep! Just roll back over when you wake up which you do anyway

I will admit to not only "accidently" sleeping on my back - I used to knowingly sleep on my back

If I was having a really bad night sleeping and couldn't get comfortable any other way then I'd just give in and sleep on my back. I knew the risks blah blah but I also needed to just sleep some times too! lol

:flower:

I wake up on my back lots, my understanding is that it's not an issue on the whole.

If blood supply is compromised Mum feels this way before baby does (I think AngelUK is a prime example fo this) and her body makes her change position. Used to be a problem with the old style epidurals but (as with many things pregnancy related) has grown arms and legs over time. Yet another thing we're made to worry over needlessly.
