Does anyone else think £600 - £800 is a bit steep for a pram?! ** update last page **

I think some of the prices are shocking, I really do. And I don't think the argument "what's better than spending your money on your baby?" actually holds any water, because you aren't spending money on the baby, you're just buying "stuff". How many people do you see on here who are on their 2nd, 3rd, 4th pram?!

Your baby needs something secure and comfortable, and you need something practical that can fit into your car (if you drive). That's all. The brand doesn't matter, the colour doesn't matter, the price tag doesn't matter.

Half of the people I know who have really expensive prams bought them for the same reason that they bought designer handbags, because they're showing off  It is just how some people live. Personally I find it really embarrassing to watch them.

You see the same on here, the ones who want the designer prams are the same ones who want the designer nappy bags  Complete waste of money IMO.

Sure, I can afford £1000+ for a pram, but do I think it is justified? Not a chance.

Same with spending more than £300 on a cot, what is the point? Or kitting out the nursery in baby sized furniture which will only last a couple of years before the hanging rails are too short. Why would you waste all that money?!

There are far more valuable ways to spend your money than overpriced baby kit, if you really want to invest in the child put the money into savings for it's education.

It is obviously a personal choice where you have to balance what you can afford to spend versus what you think the product is actually worth. If you have a fixed budget you decide where the money will be best spent, for me that means saving on the travel system so I can buy an Angelcare monitor.

I think it is one story of the pram is amazing quality and gets wonderful reviews, but quite another if it just looks nice and you want it because it is the most popular or because famous people have it!

I found that entire post VERY rude and judgemental.

Wow.

First I've been back in this thread since I posted...

It really is just as well that this is a public internet forum where we can all voice whatever our opinion is... Oh. My mistake.

Saw the Icandy today...what a total babe! I'm sold already!!

Nicola xx

Went with Husband to see the Icandy. Apple was my original choice, but OMG, the Icandy Peach!!! Sold to the Lancasters!! What a treat it is, easy to steer, manouver, change from carrycot to car seat to pushchair, easy to store, fits in both cars and beautiful in tomato! Bean is going to love it :cloud9:

It may seem a tad early but since this is the most expensive item, we need to gets prices checked etc...besides, they keep all goods in store right upto the birth!!

Sooooooooooo excited :)

when are they coming into stock? We thought about the peach, but couldn't be bothered waiting until October!

I reckon I will have to spend well over £500 on a pram with 3 babies on the way!

Seen one which is £800 but comes apart as seperate car seats too, well worth the £800 seen as some car seats alone are £100 each!

You replied on the thread gypsy punk!!

Ignore everything I said everyone..Im going for the Icandy Special Edition and it will cost me £850 smackeroos!

I think for the time they spend in them 6mths not worth it, mum said at 6mths you would rather get into something lighter and easier to get around in and they become redundant

It's pricey but I don't know... I can think of worse things to spend your money on. I fell in love with a pram that was about £700 without the carseat (bebecar confort) as it had wonderful suspension and bounced, it also had a detachable carrycot and was generally just lush. It just looked a very good quality.

Not long after I actually decided on the M&P pliko pramette for £250 simply because it was more practical, lightweight and I preferred the fabric and design (haha...)

So, I wouldn't really judge either way. If I could have both, I probably would do... for no reason other than that I liked them both so much and would get great use from them both for various things.

That said, I absolutely hate Quinnys, Icandys and all other faddy makes like them. They look poor quality, aren't worth half the money people pay for them and every chav in my town has one so that for one really puts me off. I guess, I think it's worth paying good money for good quality but not simply for a name.

think we might end up getting the mothercare xcusion, need to have a play about with it first tho but we liked the look of it and how easy it was to push compared to alot of them

Hi

I am a bit of a pram expert lol!

My OH refused to buy an expensive new pram even though the Grandparents offered to club together and but whatever we wanted!

I started off with a second hand three wheeler from Ebay for £30 gasp!! Which was great for where I live (very rural) but too big and clunky for me to load in to the car boot and take to town so I ended up using the baby sling most of the time (highly reccommended!)

After much moaning about how heavy the 3 wheeler was I bought a M&P Luna from Ebay for about £70 and sold the three wheeler for £70 woo hoo profit! I then got bored of the Luna so sold it and made some profit on that! Anyway I must have been through about 20 prams in total making profit on each one sold after I have got bored of it!

I have had my current pram which is a Bugaboo Cameleon (new style chassis) for about 3 months now and I love it - easily the best and I have been around a few!! Bought it for about £300 but I have not spent over £30 lol!

There are bargains to be had and lots of people sell their prams on Ebay if they buy them and don't like them so they have had minimal use.

I know that not everyone likes second hand but no one can tell and allthough I didn't like the idea at first I am so happy now that I didn't spend up to £1000 on a Bugaboo.

PS - he also bought a Mamas & Papas cot for £7.50 - the matress was more expensive for £24.99 from TKmax!

i am having the Graco Mosaic deluxe travel system, its currently £189 in mothercare and its all i need. Something that isnt too bulky and something that folds up small.

My advice, if possible visit a pram superstore - like Kiddicare in Peterborough with an open mind and try every pram you can, drive it, trying putting it up and down, try lifting it etc (preferably without help or instructions so you know how easy it really is).

Even is you do make a saving, it won't be worthwhile if you spend 2-3 years swearing at it everytime you set it up or get it out of the boot. Kiddicare also do very good instore prices and do quite a few deals to include packs of accessories.

And don't forget you can get a lot of good quality second hand prams, AND you can sell on your pram once you're done.

We did this when we were pregnant with our first son, and it completely blew our pre-consceptions about what we wanted.

Of course, if you do splash out on a travel system, probably best to wait longer than we did to get pregnant again or you'll be having to buy a whole new double buggy, lol

I'm selling one of these on ebay for £100ono with car seat(never been in accident), car seat base and all accessories.
