Hi!
I have been on Metformin for about a month. I recently went off of it because it was making me soo sick. I would get really really bad diarrhea after I ate, and sometimes I would get horrible headaches. DH and I really want a baby, so I am going to back on it this week. But I wanted to know if anyone else has these side effects, and do they go away?

Hi, yes this is a very common side effect, I was sick for about 6 weeks as I gradually increased my dose. It is horrid but I promise that the side effects do go away eventually. Now I have no side effects at all.

All I would say is be careful what you eat while your body gets used to it, try your hardest to eat healthy and low GI.

Any more questions just ask.x

I agree totally, when you eat poorly it will make you sick. I also ate smaller meals with met, and large amounts of water. And also taking your time to get to your dose.

Yes, it was horrible for me. You said your were taking it for a month, I couldn't even stomach it for that long. My doctor switched me to the Extended Release formula. You take all of them at one time instead of at 2 or 3 meals. It gradually releases in the body. I take mine at night so the nausea wasn't too bad, and my bowel movements were always in the morning. I'm at 2000mg. I did one week at 1000mg, second week at 1500 mg, and 3rd week at 2000mg and stuck to it. I got my BFP a month and a half after having started!

And yes, with poor diet metformin can wreak havoc. You need lots of water and I started eating breakfast regular. Some high fiber cereal like kashi or special k (With the chocolate bits). It also helps to solidify my stool. Sorry if TMI!

Thanks so much ladies!
Lucy I did buy Kashi today so hopefully eating a regular breakfast will help :)

I have been on met for 6 months. I still have diarrhea daily. I was diagnosed with IBS when in college, which also gave me diarrhea. At first met was so terrible I couldn't leave the house, I had to use the bathroom when there was nothing there! it was terrible. Now I have gone back to what I dealt with in college. I take Imodium to help alleviate the symptoms, that seems to do wonders. I take it every 2-3 days depending. After O I just try to avoid my trigger foods. I found that soda is a huge trigger for diarrhea.

Hope you get your BFP very soon!
