here is my birth plan, can you think of any amendments i need to make or anything need clarification??

Details
Name- Samantha Birthing Partner- Aaron (Fiancé)
Preferred name- Sam Due Date 9th December 2011
Date of birth- 27th November 1988 No visitors to be admitted at ANY stage

Labour
I wish to have a natural a birth as possible, being free to move about and try different positions. I wish to have as little pain relief as possible and will request it if need be. I wish to avoid pethidine due to a family allergy to it (I am unaware if I am allergic) I wish to avoid an epidural if at all possible and would like to be asked for clarification that I want one.
I DO NOT CONSENT TO CONTINIOUS MONITORING, and would like to be intermittently monitored via sonicaid. I would like to avoid internal monitoring if at all possible and consent must be given by both me and Aaron at the time!
For pain relief I wish to use
• TENS
• Massage
• Gas and Air
• Hypnotherapy
• Birthing ball
• Movement
• Water (shower)

Delivery
I do not want to deliver on my back, or wish to use stirrups, I wish to chose a position I find the most comfortable.

I wish for a natural delivery, and would prefer for ventouse over forceps if assistance is needed however this decision ultimately will be left to the midwife delivering.

I wish for the baby to be placed straight on to my stomach for skin to skin, and left for as long as possible before being dried. I wish for my baby to be put into a cloth nappy and not a disposable.

I wish for the cord to stop pulsing and a natural 3rd stage before the cord is cut

I wish for Aaron to tell the sex of our baby.

I wish to breastfed as soon as possible and would like some guidance then left to it, I will ask for help if I need it. NO formula is to be given without my consent

I consent for my baby to have the vitamin K injection

In the event of complications

I would like to avoid a caesarean section were possible, but if the need arises, Aaron is to be given the choice to come to theatre; it is up to him to accept or decline. He must not be forced into attending.

I wish for skin to skin contact as soon as possible.

I would like the cord left intact as long as possible, therefore if baby needs medical attention I request that this is done on the bed with the cord still intact.

If I do require a delivery in theatre I do not wish to know the sex of my baby, Aaron will be the one to tell me this.

If the baby needs transferring to another unit or hospital, Aaron MUST be by their side!

I do NOT want my baby to be given any formula without the written consent of myself, or if I am unable Aaron, if applicable I would like to feed my baby via expressed breastmilk in a syringe or cup, NO BOTTLES TO BE USED.

and please nobody tell me a birth plan is a waste of time, i've had enough of negative comments and am at the end of my teather, the point in a birth plan is to express my wish, especially if i am unable to, for example under general anaesthetic, i am open to the fact it may deviate from my wishes but the point is i want it in black and white so the hospital cannot just do what they wish and ignore my verbal requests

Remember to put allergies in there, and any pain relief for afterwards, also if you want to spend time with LO or sleep directly after. Also are you sure you want tummy contact? Having bub pressed to your breasts (not neccesarily feeding) creates more contact :)

Mine was similar to this and the Midwife said " I shouldnt do it like this " My wish and so on because you more then likley not to get everything you wish for !!

But If you want to do it like that then do it and ignore what they say !
I wrote a letter instead incase anything went wrong for me or Alfie and basically said I trust them in what they do and what decisions you thinks needed for the safe arrival of my son and the well being of myself I'll agree with

Wow, my midwife hasnt even asked me about a birthing plan! Maybe i should do one :-s xx

wow thank you missmayhem, i think you have just written mine for me!! its exactly how i want mine! only difference is that i already know its a boy, Good on you for the reusable nappies by the way x

thats a nice idea about the daddy getting to annouce the baby's sex to you. I never thought of that - must include it in mine

I'd already put in mine that I wanted my husband to tell me the sex of the baby, but hadn't considered if I were to be taken to theatre for a general anaesthetic, so I like the idea of including that I still want him to be the one to tell me. Thanks! Xx

great birth plan, I used this as a model for my own!

thank ladies, i hadn't thought about afterwards, but i think that i will deal with that at the time, if they place baby on my tummy i can lift them up a bit, it was just the enforcement of the skin to skin, MW on course said they ten to be placed on your tummy as they can reach that point from the birthing end

I think they have a rooting reflex anyway, and will crawl towards your boobies... :haha:

wow, thanks I was starting to write mine and this has helped so much!
The only other thing I have included is that they are to ask mine and my partners permission before internal examinations are conducted and my partner is to remain present throughout it.
I remember reading a horrible post where a lady was examined without her consent and other medical staff had to step in to stop it because she became so upset.

Can I ask what you mean by continous monitoring?

Thats a really good birthing plan, hope you dont find me cheeky but i used it as a template for my own as my M/W is USELESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! she told me not to bother doing one as they never go how you planned it, but yours is so detailed and to the point that "i am definitely having one".

Thank you :) and p.s. i think its great well done! no negativity from me thats for sure :) x

Nice... do they do eye medication there? I put my not consent for the eye meds under the vit k shot thing you have on your birth plan... it is standard here but some research shows that it can negatively impacting nursing (not trying to start a huge debate here...)

looks a lot like mine looked :) good job mommy!!

oh what about pacis? Usually you can put the yay or nay under the part where you say no bottles...

pacis (dummy) i will be using due to the SIDS research.

thanks ladies, there gonna curse me when they read it

continious monitoring, they strap you to a monitor, leave you there in a bed on your back with no room to move due to the leads etc etc......... they are trying to force this upon me, thats the whole reason for my birth plan

Thats a really detailed plan, youve thought of everything :)

The only thing id say is there were just a couple of points youve repeated (i think the no formula thing from memory).

Also, bearing in mind incase of midwives shift changes or having extra staff needing to come in and assist, could u bullet point it to make it quicker to read? X

nice plan!

I didn't bother having one with my first, ended up high risk so I just went with the flow.

My plan for this pregnancy is get her out quickly and safely please but no section unless its a medical emergency!

i've repeated it on purpose putting it under different sections, i'm hoping the incase of emergency one won't need to be looked at!!!!!

In an emergency it all goes out the window anyway!! I remember Alfies heartbeat dropping and not recovering and all of a sudden there were loads of people in the room and 'downstairs' iykwim! It was something I thought I'd be mortified about, but I'd gone past the point of caring and fortunately they managed to deliver with a vontouse rather than section xx
