Does popularity matter?

i don't think popularity matters too much, i mean you don't want a really common name but i have to admit i've never heard of a Logan before (and i live in london) and i think it's a lovely name!!
xxxx

I think popularity has a big role to play. When i went to school there was 3 kelseys, 2 carlies and a kristen in my class. i want my girl to be a one and only! I love classy names, but they are all coming back into fashion now... CRAP! LOL

All the names i thought would be unique enough to get away with, are now in the top 25!

We were originally going with Jack for our DS however we have changed our mind as id hate for him to be one of many in his class, and have to be know as Jack .K. Imo its too common :)

Yeah it does to me O:)
I loved Oliver and Olivia and now they're really popular I refuse to have them :(

For me it's like being called Sarah or Emma or Rachel (No offence to anyone btw! :flower:)

Doesnt matter to me no. I never minded having a common name at all

xx

Popularity sort of matters to me. But I love Logan! FOB's name is Logan, so I'm biased. ;)

I had a popular name for the time and it didn't really bother me that much.

My problem more is that as a teacher, it is very very hard to choose a name that isn't someone you've taught!! Or that doesn't remind you of a naughty little rotter you once had to tell off!!

I'm loving Jack at the moment, but am trying to find something less popular that me AND hubby can agree on. But if we can't find anything, we will go back to Jack, even though as a previous poster has mentioned, it's pretty popular at the moment! (Just googled and it is the THE top name in the UK!)

yeah it matters to me, i had 2 joanne's in my class at primary school and there were 4 more in my year at secondary school, one more in my work and now there's 3 joannes where i work now. i hate aving to be called jo w or joanne or jojo! x

it matters to me, i don't want anything that is too common but equally i don't want my child to have to spell his/her name out to everyone for the rest of its life because it is so unusual or is a strange/different spelling of a more usual name.

One of my friends has a little boy called Thomas (Tom) and he is at school now and gets called Tom S by the teacher because there are 3 other Tom's in his class. When people call him Thomas, he tells them off for pronouncing it wrong - he thinks his name is 'Tom-S'!!!

I'm set on having Logan for a boy in October (if it is a boy) I dont think it is a very popular name but it depends on where u live. It was on the 50 top names for Scotland last year but it is certainly not as popular as other names out there.

It don't matter to me, but when i had kai i wanted a name i didnt know another child to have as i wanted a 'new' (for us) name.

now hes at nusery there are 2 other kai's there... dammit lol x

if my lo turns out to be a boy (she wasnt very sure at the scan) he will be called Logan. i only know one Logan so wasnt aware it was popular. I had picked Ella for a girl but was a bit worried about how popular it was so that is one of the reasons i have changed it to Elayna (Ella for short).

We never really paid attention to popularity when naming our children, they were just the names we liked, however one is quite popular, particularly in our area, I now know 6 Charlottes!

i am curious as to where and when you came across so many Charlottes? We are naming one of our daughters Charlotte after a much loved relative. We are in the US.

As for poularity, studies have shown that people with unique names love it when they get older...maybe not so much when they are young. Ultimiately, if the name fits...wear it!

i love Logan and it amazes me that its so popular and i dont actually know anyone with that name. Its on our list for this one.

BUT..... we love unusual names...i cant/wont have a name that i can associate with anyone i know...I want a name where my baby is likely to be the only person with that name...hence our first boy being called Kasper x

It was in the top 5 in Scotland last year, which was what put me off. As it turns out though, my cousins son is called Logan and as his dad is my dad's twin it would just be too confusing for them

it mattered to me- whilst pregnant I watched the name threads and birth announcements like a hawk...only ever saw ONE abigail, and im talking in 9 months.

So I kept it secret on here, never told a soul...had abigail on the 15th Feb and in the past 3 months iv seen 4 abigails.....all after her d.o.b

so even if you pick a nice name and its not popular...it still can become popular after.

A little annoying however!

It does matter to me, unfortunately. My husband, however, couldn't care less. He keeps picking those darn popular names! :dohh:

But I don't want a name that every other kid in school is going to have. My name is Kate/Katie, and growing up... EVERYONE seemed to have that name (either shortened from Katherine, Kathleen, Katelyn, etc). Now, my name seems more unique (dont know anyone with it )... but growing up, it was popular... and so everyone seemed to have it. I am trying to avoid that with my children, if I can!

Ultimately though, you should just pick a name you love. In the end, that's all that matters.
xx
