Does using a vibrating bouncer make baby reliant on movement to settle?

Hi,

I have heard some really good reviews about the vibrating bouncer chairs but have a concern. I have been told that if your LO has a vibrating bouncer they become dependant on the movement to settle and therefore can't do it themselves. Have any of you had experience with them? If so did you find this was the case?

Thanks...I have been thinking about this and trying to decide for ages!

Ha ha sorry! Mine just had a normal bouncer..... wait no one did have a vibrating one but i never switched it on! Sowwy!

i wondered this too...so im no help, im just hijacking your answers mwahaha :D

We had a vibrating one, which I absolutely LOVED!
And no, it did not mean that we doomed ourselves to lives of shaking cots or anything. :haha:
We would put Freya into the bouncer quite a lot - it was a good place for her to lie so she could see what was going on around her. We mostly turned the vibrate on if she would cry when we were trying to eat, otherwise we had to eat in shifts.
It was an absolute godsend. I lent it to a friend who has used it for two of her babies, and who lent it to her sister in between. None of us has had any issues with babies not self-settling.

I guess it could depend on how you're using it though. If you put baby in it and turned the vibrate on for all their daytime sleeps, then yes I could see it becoming an issue.

....i guess im just too slow now im getting fatter (boo) heavier (hiss) preggo brain is taking over (sob).... *pity* ....

Lol im totally joking...energy boost has kicked in, im just interested in ALL THINGS baby related :D

I had one with my son and I found it DID make him rely on it to settle.
I was working when he was about 4 months old and I'd take him round his dads and while he was geting up, I put my son in the bouncer and turn it on.
The ammount of batteries we went through was crazy!
He would never sit in that chair unless it was on! But then he would fall asleep.

This time I'm going for a classic baby bouncer, my son never learned how to kick his feet and bounce it himself.

I have never done the swings or vibrating bouncers. Mine just sit in a normal rocker (bouncer).

A friend of mine had one and yes it was wonderful in getting her baby to settle, but my goodness that baby got so used to it that she would have to put it in there to get her to sleep and then try and carrier her into her cot and not wake her, she swore she would NEVER use one again.

I think if you don't use it all the time, it should be ok. Me personally just don't want to start a habit like that just in case.

Using the vibrate option didn't cause us any problems when it came to self settling. We didn't use the vibrate all the time though, mostly just when she was fussing/ sleepy and I couldn't quite get free to take her to bed at that moment. We used it without the vibrate when I wanted her portable but able to see what was going on. I was really worried about hitting her head against the counter if I put her in the sling to cook

Thanks for all of your help ladies.....mixed opinions! I'm none the wiser! Lol
