Hi ladies,

I've come across something strange and am curious to hear what others think.

I signed up my son for gymnastics and the one item on the Registration Policy form says, "due to allergies, please refrain from eating any peanut products." I have to sign that I understand and agree to the policies.

What the heck does that mean? They don't want me eating peanuts at the gym? They don't want me eating peanuts right before I come? Surely, they don't expect me to not serve peanuts and peanut butter in my own home, right?

Maybe I'm overthinking this. It just seems strange that they didn't just say, please don't bring peanuts to the gym.

Hmmmm...

I am pretty sure it is a rule for AT the gym. How were the other rules written? Such as "always listen to instructor" - obviously, this is just in class, IYKWIM. You would not assume it applies outside of the gym setting, right?

It will be contact before going in or whilst there. Some people are severely allergic and contact can cause anaphylaxis. If it's on your hands then you touch equipment or the person it could cause that. You won't have to stop eating it but just be mindful not to have it straight before going in x

I think it will be not to eat them at the gym and maybe just before too because some with severe allergies can have a reaction just being near someone who has eaten peanuts.

I think that means don't eat peanuts in the gym, but really they ought to be more specific than that if they are actually hoping to keep a child with a nut allergy safe, because that's not super specific and I bet a lot of people don't know what that means.

There was a teacher at the school where my mum works, years ago, who was literally so allergic to peanuts that she could have a severe reaction if a child so much as opened a product containing them in close proximity. They had to ban all peanut containing products from the premises!

So yeah, there are some people who are THAT allergic, unfortunately!

My children's preschool is nut free, not just peanuts (which are actually legumes). Just easier if you have lots of kids with allergies.

Thanks, ladies. I came back to this thread, but couldn't sign on with my phone for some reason. Yeah, I was overthinking it. Although, it IS odd wording. They probably just have it there so that people are mindful of what they eat before they go. I wonder if they have a coach who is allergic.

All schools around here are peanut-free, which is annoying for peanut butter lovers, but I get it. No one wants anyone to die. Some do go waaaayyy too far though.
