Don't really like cartoons, characters, etc

I'm selective with the Disney stuff... I hate hate hate hate hate hate hate hate hate hate all this Disney princess tat that's infested the girls' clothing aisles (if mine is a girl I'm on an anti-pink crusade anyway - I'll conceed cerise and bright pink but baby pastel stuff is a no-no - whatever my mother is planning!) but I do have to admit I love Winnie the Pooh (in both the AA Milne and Disney varieties) especially Tigger so there will be something Tigger-esque creeping in there come what may.

It may be inevitable that I have a little girl who rolls into nursery, immediately finds the princess dress and wears it all session - but it's sure as heck not coming from me!

Disclaimer - I'm a primary teacher and like many of us I get really naffed off with classes of kids who think the only version of fairy tales is the flipping Disney version - it makes teaching traditional tales topics in early years an utter nightmare!

I don't plan to go for a themed nursery anyway - I want something plain on the walls that won't be out-grown quickly, and just to change accessories/furniture as baby grows - and refuse to go into the blue or pink only route anyway.

I felt like this too before i had Ella. But now we have dora the explorer stuff everywhere :dohh: I had to laugh because I saw an old facebook status of mine before i did the baby thing "no child of mine will ever watch Dora the explorer" lol and look what happens. i will never decorate a bedroom or buy anything big with cartoon characters or anything on as it is just a phase, we have a couple of dvds, a towel, and a couple of toys, so just stuff that can be grown out of as she gets older. OH wanted to get her a dora bedroom set but i said no i would rather something more individual that wont be grown out of too easily if you get what I mean.

We do however have bright colourful winnie the pooh wall hangings and stuff my mum has given us from years ago which i use as winnie the pooh is, well he's winnie the pooh!!!!! :haha:

I am very lucky in that my little girl is not into the "princess stuff" - shes not really pink girl as you say and isnt impressed with jewellery, tiaras and heeled shoes. I cant stand the stuff, to me it looks really cheap and tacky. I wish they woudl do more fancy dress for girls that isnt a princess/snowwhite/cinderella/tinkerbell ggrrrr whatever happened to bunny rabbits, cats and what not!

I agree! And the princess stuff always looks so super cheap as if the material would spark with static just by touching it. I'd much rather have bunnies too. As for heels... I saw a pic of Suri Cruise the other day where she was wearing heels and I was appalled! If I have a lil girl she will not be wearing heels or have a handbag over her wrist like that!
