Does anyone have one and how good are they ?

I am hoping to bf and although im not planning to buy a pump until baby is here was wondering if anyone reccommended the double ones ?

I know they are expensive but I worked out as I won't have to buy formula then its a pretty good investment (if you think they are any good?)

Hi

When Poppy was in special care I was pumping every 3 hours so that she could use my milk for her tube feeds. I used a double breastpump that the hospital lent me. It was great as it meant I could pump both sides in half the time which was a god send, especially at 3am!!

BUT, once she was home and I was pumping, I used to just feed from one side, then pump from the other so I never needed the double pump then. So I'd say you're probably best saving your money xx

i have the medela swing and its realllly good, it gets the milk out really quickly so if u cant find a double one thats good this is a good choice because u can empty both boobs in about 20mins

I used a Medela lactina pump that the hospital lent me and I was able to use it as a double pump with the breast shield from my own Medela mini. It was handy and quick but not worth buying for yourself, unless there is some reason that you will ONLY be expressing every feed. You can feed on one side and pump on the other if you want. Prob a manual pump is better for this cos i only had the electric mini medela and it's very noisy and a bit distracting for the baby, but a fantastic pump apart from in that situation.

I think you only really need a double pump if you need to express loads (like you can't breastfeed for some reason). I used a double pump in hospital when Elliot was being tube fed and it was great (once someone showed me that it was a double pump and gave me the extra equipment needed to use it as a double pump :grr:).

I hired a double pump when we came out of hospital for a month but I haven't used it as a double pump since being at home as I've been mainly breastfeeding. I've ordered the Medela Swing off Ebay but haven't received it yet - it looks really good as it does the two phase thing where it pumps quickly first to get your milk flowing.

If you do want a double pump I've seen Medela ones (not the ones they use in hospital though) go for less than £30 on Ebay, you can buy the bits that are in contact with your breasts & the milk seperately (or sterilize what you get 2nd hand).

Good luck with it x
