ear infection :(

I think I might have any ear infection and am terrified to go to my GP about it as I think he'll probably prescribe antibiotics I hate taking antibiotics at any time and esp. don't want to have to take them during pregnancy.

I'm wondering whether I could just leave it, live with the pain, and hope it goes away. Or would that be dangerous for baby?

Anyone have experience with something similar?

I don't know to be honest, but it doesn't seem like a healthy thing for you to do to just leave it? You don't want it getting really bad do you?

i would go to the dr and maybe see what he says , if he/she wants to pescribe anti -biotics ,then see if they will give it a week to see if it will go on its own and take it from there . ear infections can cause dizzyness and you dont want to make yourself realy poorly .

I have a double ear infection (and strep) and I know how you feel I DID NOT want to take the antibiotic!! But apparently being pregnant we are more at risk for complications blah blah blah.....and I guess it probably isn't great to have our bodies tyring to fight an infection and dealing with fevers when we are trying to grow our babies SO I sucked it up and listened to my doctors. They put me on amoxycillian (sp?) which I know is what they always put my children on and told me it was 99.9999% safe. Hope this helps

Hi, ive just finished a week course of Keflaxin antibiotics, i now feel a whole lot better, thus so does my Baby..i didnt want to take them either at the start but decided the risks of being sick were waaaay less than the risks of antibiotics pescribed by a GP who checked their safety 1st..

thanks everyone, I do feel better now about the possibility of having to take an antibiotic, if it comes to that. For now though, as it's not bothering me except at night, I'm going to give a homeopathic remedy a go. The pharmacist recommended it and it's safe during preg so will try it for 48 hrs and if no relief will go to the doc.

Try belladonna for earache its a homepathic remedy, uive suffered with ear infections since i was 2 yrs olf, im now 23 and have to go see the ENT every4 months, so now how u feel! They may give u a spray rather than antibiotics, but just be careful what the spray has in it
Also a few drops of olive oil 3 times a day will losen up any wax and soothe the inside of your ear

I had an ear infection in first tri and they phoned the hospital and got one that was safe in pregnancy. Don't leave it on they can cause permanent damage.

I feel for you with the ear infection. I have a quite severe one that came on Friday, and I went to the Doctor right away as I'm prone to ear infections. This one is AWFUL and even though I've been given ear drops, I was up in screaming pain all night last night. Not fun However it's going away slowly. I got it though from Blue Lagoon swimming pool in Pembrokeshire, a FILTHY pool by the way. It was decided by the Doctor and the Nurse that it was caused from dirty water because the pool isn't cleaned properly. Anyways my dear, go see the GP and get some drops or something because ear pain is not fun at all. Best of luck xx
