I've just started yesterday having an early m/c at just over 4 weeks (guessing dates). I hope nobody minds me asking, but for those who have experienced them how did it compare to your usual period? I'm normally quite heavy early on in my period, but this bleeding seems a bit steadier than I would usually have.

Also, should I be seeking out medical advice for any reason? I'd rather not if I don't have to, as long as everything seems to be ok am I alright to just get on with things myself?

Thanks

So sorry for you loss hun,

About the bleeding, my early m/c i did not bleed as much as i thought i would, and my next af i did see a few more clotting but i think thats the bodys way of making sure its cleaned its self out.

I did however go in for a second scan after six weeks to make sure everything was back on track. Perhaps you could even go in for a blood test to make sure your levels have dropped?

Wishing you the best,

So sorry to hear your news. I had a m/c at about six or seven weeks. I had pains before I had any bleeding. When the bleeding came, it was light at first and then changed to heavy for about 24 hours. Then it went back to light. It was quite like a normal period for me, but the pains were slightly different -- I can't explain how they were different though ... they just were! My emotions were sky-high, and I guess I'll never know whether that was hormone-related or a genuine reaction to losing my baby. I suppose it was probably a bit of both.

I did go to hospital, but they didn't actually do anything apart from scan me to show me that there was no longer a baby. However, I'm pleased that I went to the hospital, because they looked after me for a night and a day at a time when I wasn't very much use to anybody, because I was in such pain and just kept crying my eyes out. I also saw a lovely doctor who explained m/c to me, and how it was not due to anything I'd done or not done, and how my chances for a happy healthy baby next time were fine. The reassurance I received from her was worth the time I spent in the hospital.

So, although medically you may not need to see a doctor, psychologically you might find it worthwhile. Another option is to call either your GP or NHS Direct and see what they say.

Take some time to look after yourself at the moment, because a M/C is a traumatic thing and you are entitled the time to get over it.

ohgosh hun im sry for ur loss, dont know any answers as when i mmc i had a dnc :hugs:

Hi I had a miscarriage at xmas and I would have been approx 4-5 weeks at that point. Mine started with severe cramping and lower back pains which lasted on and off for abot 4 days, then I started spotting like a brown discharge, I had that for abot 3 days then I had a watery blood red discharge for abot a week. I still had the pains and cramps intermittently.

I was eventally referred to EPAU when I was approx 6wks for a scan, the scan showed nothing and my blood hcg level was 89 which is low considering how many weeks I shold have been.

Two days later I started a proper "bleed" but much less than a normal period, this lasted for 3 days then stopped completely. I had a further blood hcg test which showed my levels were at 13 and i was told the m/c was more or less over. One week later i did a home preg test which came back as negative and therefore I knew in my own mind it was over.

The pains were horrible but I could cope with them, the bleeding was not bad either considering, never noticed any clots or tissue etc. For me the worse part was assming I was miscarrying but not being able to have it confirmed de to me being so early, it was the "not knowing for sure" that got to me the most I think.

If you feel ok and dont want to see a doc then once the bleeding stops for a few days get a home test and keep testing until ur negative again. Obviously if it doesnt feel right see a doc. Personally I would tell my gp so its on my records as if you have problems with any future pregnancies then I believe you have to have approx 3 m/c before docs are able to perform any tests etc.

Sorry have waffled on enough, take care xx

Thanks everyone for your good wishes and for sharing your experiences. My bleeding today is still quite light, although it has had some small clotty bits in, no different from a normal period though (sorry if TMI). I've not really had much pain, just some mild cramping, again no worse than a normal period yesterday.

Did anybody continue temping? Although my temp had dropped off yesterday, it's gone up slightly today, still not high but not as low as usual (have put a start of cycle overlay on my FF homepage). What is a usual temp pattern in this situation? I'm guessing there's probably not a standard answer!

I'm sorry for all of the questions, I'm just the kind of person that likes information and comparisons in a new situation .

hello hon - I am so sorry this is happening to you. :hugs: you seem to be handing it so well. I can totally understand you not wanting to go to the docs - but then - are you completely sure that you are miscarrying? A lot of women do bleed during early pregnancy....?

Sorry if this question causes any confusion....

You, and others posting are exactly right that if you keep temping and take another test in a week or so - this should give you an idea of how things are going. Unfortunately - as you know there is nothing that anyone can do to change the outcome... but a scan at an early pregnancy unit once you reach week 5 or so could likely give you more information.

But - there is no need for medical information. Your body will look after things - one way or another.

Big big

Thanks for your reply. I think my :bfp:s got too faint for it to be anything else, also the initial drop in my temp was quite a bit below my coverline. I had also been having some nausea which has more or less passed now.

I'm doing my best to cope with it, yesterday was a funny day but I'm managing to feel as ok as I can about it today. I suffer from post-natal depression and only came off my tablets a couple of months ago to TTC and I really don't want to have to go back on them at the moment so am doing my bes to try and keep on tops of things emotionally. I keep having weepy moments but on the whole am not too bad considering.

awwww - gemma. I'm so sorry hon. You are facing so much right now. You sounds really strong - I'm proud of you. :hugs:

Hi there. Really sorry for your mc. I had an early one in october and I found the pains unbearable. I usually get horrible periods but this was worse. That said it only lasted for one day and then appeared to be normal. I did get pregnant straight away on my next period although unfortunately it didn't last but didn't have the same issues I've had this time with getting a d&c and waiting etc. So maybe next time you'll be lucky.
