Early private scans - worth it?

Really? That is worrying. Do they do a re-test then if they can't find it or do they assume you have lost it? :nope:

I had private scans done (2now). After a missed blighted ovum I needed the reassurance, and frankly still do. I loved it! I saw the HB at the 6 week one, which was utterly amazing.

There are 4D ones here which are expensive. I got a viability one done which is only $45. It just gives a pic of baby and looks at HB. It wasn't advertised on their website but when I called they said they could do that.

Maybe you can find it cheaper?

In my area, I have only found 2 places and one website is down completely. I don't mind paying the £99, my local one sounds a nice place and is a large company - https://www.ultrasound-direct.com/b.../early-scan/?gclid=COuSl9fyqasCFcMKfAod_0C50Q

Anyone heard of/used them?

Can they do 4D at such an early stage or is it not worth it?

4d is not worth it. They showed me (turned it on quickly without making me pay) at 9 weeks. The 2d was better at that stage.

IMO early scans are so worth it!!

i had mine today in the EPU because of pain and spotting but my god i feel like iv seen the light at the end of the tunnel now. my mind was so blurred with worry etc just to see that little flickering blob made it all worth it.

it really is personal prefernce hun and if your getting screwed up its not doing you or bubba any good what so ever. go with your heart! :flower:

Thanks. It is all I think about, I am always in a bad mood with OH, I feel bad. He keeps asking what he has done wrong. He is talking about prams and stuff, and I am just praying the little mite makes it. It is hard being a woman.

I definately want/need to do it, it is just so scary.

We've booked one when I'll be 7+3 - we had a scare early on with DD1, and I just want to know everything's fine this time round too - it's soooo worth the money to have the reassurance! And if it's not, then we can deal with it sooner rather than later.

Think it comes down to a lot of things - how you feel, money (unfortunately!) and how patient you can be!

Jennifurball, I'm from Preston too!!

If you haven't booked already, I can highly recommend Take A Peek in St Helen's. Its only £65 for the dating scan, we had one last week at 8 weeks.

I know its a bit further but only took us 40 minutes to get there and it was such a nice place, the staff were lovely. We had a mmc in May, I told her about it and she was really sweet and said come on then, lets see if we can set your mind at rest....and she did! She found the heartbeat straight away and it was amazing.

She knew how uncomfy I was needing a wee so she let me go and have one so I was comfy for the rest of the scan!

She talked us through everything, even answering questions we had about the mmc that we never got answers for.

I can't recommend them highly enough and the price was fab compared with the ones in Preston.

Good luck with wherever you decide, I'm sure all will be fine hun. Keep me posted, nice to see someone else from Preston!!xxxx

oh i also forgot to mention, i had mine today and it was a transabdominal scan so there may be no need for internal either :flower:

Hope I can just have a normal one too! After all my dodgy smears, I am sick of my OH sat with me supporting me with my legs wide open!

Yay, another Prestonian! lol - I will look into the St Helens one, will see how OH feels too. Glad yours went well! :)

Me again!

I have been on the website and I can't decide whether to go for next Tuesday 27th Sep where I will be 7+3 or wait even longer for Sun 2nd Oct where I will be 8+1. Will it really make that much difference? I am just so impatient.

My symptoms are up and down, I wasn't as tired last night and my BBs aren't as sore and I am so worried, I just don't 'feel' pregnant today, arghhhhh! :dohh: :nope:

I still think you should be 8 weeks. I don't want to be negative, but after a scan at 7 weeks things can and do still go wrong and seeing a healthy scan at that point is less reassuring than seeing a healthy scan after 8 weeks. Obviously things do go wrong later than that, but after seeing a good scan at 8 weeks your chances of having the baby are very very high. Also it will look less like a blob so you will get a better scan for your money, and you will probably dodge the dildocam.

I had one yesterday, it was worth the £105 to hear and see a heartbeat :cloud9: it was also done externally which I was suprised about

Ok thanks, I will wait til 8 weeks, I just want to get it checked before 5th when I see midwife for my bloods. The amount of forms they give us to fill, I don't want to be doing it for nothing.

Is it really that risky between the 7-8 week mark?

Doesn't help that OH is telling every man and his dog that we are expecting. I keep telling him to keep quiet. I don't want to jinx it. :nope:

Your OH should be respecting your wishes about telling people. I'm sure it's just because he is so excited but have a word with him and ask him not to tell anyone else until you have had your scan.

It came out because 4 of his other mates are expecting, but I did say I didn't care, I was only 5 weeks gone and it is far far too early to be getting excited. Bless him, he really is looking forward to it but he just doesn't realise the risks. :(

If you have spare cash then go for it. The later the better for scans because you can see more baby development.

Not to put a negative spin on just to be informative as I have experienced this many times. Seen the baby hb had the scans and then the following week MC. Best thing I have found are dopplers when you are in 2nd tri and then you can hear the heartbeat. Early scans just offer reassurance to mums at that precise point in time. Once in 2nd tri MC chances reduce.

Hope you enjoy your scan x

Hi,

Yes I can afford it at the moment. I am getting worried now though. If they found a HB at 8 weeks, does that not mean I am safe after that?

This is such scary business! I have to do it though, I am going to be upset/worried either way!

It doesn't mean you are safe. Unfortunately you are never safe from pregnancy loss until you have that baby in your arms. But, having said that, the majority of early pregnancy losses do happen before 8 weeks. Some people don't miscarry straight away and discover at 12 weeks that the baby died some weeks previously. If you see a good scan at 8 weeks with a good heartbeat your risk of miscarriage is about 5%.
Often if you get a bad scan at 8 weeks it is a blighted ovum where the sac is empty and the baby never got a heartbeat at all. This accounts for lots of early miscarriages so once you have excluded this possibility your chances are better.

Just to update you hun i had my scan this morning and all is well. Im soo relieved but appreciate anything can still happen. It was very reassuring to hear the heartbeat and see the blob that appeared on the screen.

Hope all the comments have helped you out. x x
