Is this just me?

I bought an item off ebay at the weekend for a girls flower girl dress.

The description was 'stunning', which if it was clean, it would have been.

However it stinks (of smoke...had I known I wouldn't have bought it, but admit that its my fault for not asking etc...) but its filthy with marks around the neck and on the front of the dress.

Its hard to show up in pictures and trust me, the previous wearer obviously thoroughly enjoyed herself in it - but do you think its just standard protocol to actually think the dress would have come cleaned?

I understand that she's not going to advertise it as 'dirty dress', but still?

What do you think?

I've had this before - dress was advertised as barely worn.

It arrived and stunk like it'd been worn and not washed, bobbles and covered in stains. For the cost to return it, it wouldnt have been worth it so I binned it and left her awful feedback!

i have bought loads from ebay that has arrived dirty, a few years back i used to buy and sell a lot on there and i would never dream of sending something that hadnt been washed and ironed first. dirty clothes arriving i just always chucked in the machine and if they came up ok fine, if not i would bin them, as pp said its such a hassle for a few quid

what i did do though was not leave any feedback, as if i left bad fb they would do the same to me

I expect things I buy to come clean.

Can they leave you negative feedback as a buyer?

I've sent her a message letting her know that its going to cost £12 for the item to be dry cleaned and said that I was disappointed to get the item dirty and would she be able to refund me some of the money?

I shouldn't be shocked at what people can and do do on ebay, but, seriously. What kind of a person sends clothes on that are dirty

Wow! I've never ordered clothes off of Ebay, as I'm scared of this! x

I would wait and see if she offers to refund some, if she does I would leave netural if not then I would leave bad but DONT say this to her, as I think its against the rules x

I'm pretty sure you can't give buyers negative feedback.

I can't believe someone would send dirty clothes.

That's disgusting. If I received it like that I'd ask for a partial refund, or full refund & return. You can leave her negative but she can only leave you neutral.

the feedback rules have changed a lot since i used ebay regularly so i dont know how it works but back then i had 100% and i wouldnt have risked leaving a neg in case the seller left me one in return as you definitely could do it then

I don't buy clothes or anything off Ebay but I did order a phone charger when mine broke and the one he sent the wires were hanging out and broke, needless to say it didn't work, so we messaged him and he said send it back I'll replace it for you and repay the return, which we did, and he did he sent another and again this one didn't work. I tried it on my phone an old phone that used the same charger and my sisters. Definitely wasn't working so messaged him again and he said the same and apologised (though this did take weeks!) and then he said he wasn't sending another and we left negative feedback and started getting abusive messages to change the negative feedback. We said we wouldn't be removing it until he sent another which he eventually did and it worked this time, so we changed it to neutral with details of what happened, so you definitely can leave negative on a seller :)
As for them coming clean I'd expect it too. I would never send something dirty it's horrid, not to mention embarrassing! I hope they at least refund you for the amount it's going to cost to have it cleaned, just make sure you get a receipt incase they say you're lying x

Complain to rbay hun it is against there rules for clothing not to be washed before sending id try messaging the seller first though and see if you can sort it mutually then complain as its filthy and unwashed i think they side with you if its dirty but not 100% sure. Hppe.it wasnt expensive.

I has this today, bought LO coat from ebay and it stank of smoke when it arrived and was also weirdly damp. I just felt sorry for the baby who had it before as they obviously live in a horribly smoky house. I'm just gonna wash the coat

Yes complain.

A seller cant leave anything but positive feedback now. Its discusting and i think againt the rules to not send things washed.

If it were me, i would ask for atleast half my money back and would then leave a neutral.

If she refuses and you have to waste time going through ebay, leave negative.

Im a seller and am havig this issue now but i am the seller. The buyer claims the item i sold her is not as described because its used,my listing states it as used! I told her to get it back to me and i would offer her a refund, not heard anything since!

I bought a newborn outfit (2 tops & dungarees) off ebay, they arrived a few days ago and stunk of a weird stale smell like they'd been stored away, i put them in the wash and they came out smelling clean but i don't know why she didn't wash them before sending. x

I would expect everyday clothes that can go in a washing machine to arrive clean but fir items such as bridesmaid or wedding dresses which usually cost mire to dry clean than they sell for I wouldn't expect it unless it says it has been dry-cleaned.

She can't leave you bad feedback so don't worry about that. I'd see does she pay the cost of the drycleaning and then leave either neutral or neg feedback.

Have to say though I find it disgusting that a child's dress stinks of smoke.

She cannot leave you anything but positive feedback and if she decided to do that with a negative comment, ebay would remove it quick as a flash anyway so don't worry about that.

I'd say give her a chance to respond to your partial refund request but if you're not happy with the response, then open a case for 'Item Not as Described' and see if that gets you anywhere.

Good luck hun - annoying isn't it?

I see what you mean - but it does say that it can be put in the washing machine.

Its already been for dry cleaning now, but after thinking about the netting on it, I wonder if she TRIED to clean it but the stains were still in it and she though

She's messaged saying she'll give me £3 refund (it cost me £7) so I can't argue and if it the dry clean doesn't work I'll take it as a lesson learnt.

I've left positive. She's been really good with getting back to me and immediately responded apologising saying she thought is was clean (you can't really argue about opinions on that?!)

So....we'll just see when I get it back from the cleaners whether or not I've learnt the hard way.
