Please someone talk to me.....my doctor just called from the OB and said at the anatomy scan they found what could be an echogenic focus in her heart.....she said it is like a shadow in one of the ventricles that could mean down syndrome......she said it is highly likely that everything is fine because they have seen a lot of it in patients that to the anatomy scan before 20 weeks....anyone experience this and be fine?? please help....:cry::cry::cry:

Hi

My daughter had one of these in her scan too. She is now 10 years old. No genetic problems or other issues. She is top of all her classes.

Try not to worry as I think these are quite common.

Thank you very much for responding, and I feel a lot better after hearing a few stories of people saying the same thing. I just hope the case is the same for my daughter.

Echogenic Intracardiac Focus is quite common and usually means nothing. Babies w/ DS do often have this on the anatomy scan, but so do perfectly normal, healthy babies.

I had a growth restricted baby with an EIF, an echogenic bowel and I screened positive for DS on the quad test. I gave birth to a perfectly healthy, albeit small, baby.

Big hugs, I know it’s scary but I’ll be everything is just fine. :hugs:
