To those of you that have babies with Eczema, a few questions for you.. :flower:

Do you have a family history of eczema or other allergies?

Have you used steroid treatments prescribed by a pediatrician?

What over the counter lotions/creams/ointments work for you?

When are flare ups the worst for your baby?

How often do you bathe your baby and what soap do you use?

DD was just "officially" diagnosed with Eczema yesterday. Neither myself or my husband have any allergies/ eczema problems. My inlaws both have allergies/intolerances, could she have inherited this from them? Also the doctor recommended I cut dairy from my diet as I breastfeed her to see if it helps.. The National Excema Association's website states this "While many parents assume that a particular food is the cause of their child’s eczema, the answer is rarely that simple. Most eczema is unrelated to diet. In fact, parents who remove food from their child’s diet in an effort to clear up the skin can be causing more harm than good. If your child’s eczema greatly improves with gentle skin care and topical medications as described above, it is unlikely that there is a “hidden” food allergy in play." What are your thought on the issue? Thanks in advance. :)

Thomas has been unofficially diagnosed with eczema on his face (around his mouth). Antibiotics haven't touched it (4 lots!) so it seems likely that it is eczema.

There is a lot of eczema on both my mother's and father's side of the family though I don't suffer with it myself.

He's just been given hydro cortisone cream which after 2 applications has worked wonders already!

We don't use any other lotions or creams.

Flare ups I've noticed are worse when he's stressed.

I currently use tesco kids shampoo, body wash and bubble bath so I will have to switch to something hypoallergenic.

I don't believe my son has a food allergy so I won't be making any changes to his diet :)

I have eczema which is triggered by dust mite, evergreen plants and cats (confirmed by blood tests).

Lo occasionally gets eczema in the creases of his chunky legs and he used to have it quite bad on his cheeks. Hydrocortisone clears it up nicely and I use aveeno moisturising cream. I bath him every other day using baby simple all in one wash as other brands seem to aggrevate his skin. His face eczema only cleared up when I cut out dairy from his diet.

I have eczema since birth and my ds has it on his face.
I have a history of eczema, asthma and allergies on both sides of my family.

We use hydrocortisone ointment, not the cream. It just seams to work better.

I have allergies to pet fir and saliva, food colourings and preservatives, an my main allergy is eggs, mainly egg whites, I blister if I touch them (so annoying)! The other things just make me have a flare up.

The thing I do with ds to keep his eczema in check is to treat a flare up with hydrocortisone then twice a day I moisturise him with epiderm cream. And it usually works xxx

Hi,
Yes I have a family history of allergies, although I am not bad my brothers are
We have used hydrocortisone we only needed a mild one it worked well
I use cetraban cream
I haven't managed to pinpoint why he flares up yet, he tends to be quite stable anyway
We used to bath every few weeks but are trying a bit more often as he will be starting to eat soon and will need it. We use e45 junior just because it's tried and tested from his brother who also suffers a bit.
Just to say my sons is not bad at all if I keep on top of it with the moisturiser. I learnt from his brother that once it got very dry that's when the skin cracked and infection got in

I have eczema but I do not think it is from a food allergy.

I have used hydrocortisone on his face and a prescription called Triamincinolone Acetonide for his body.

Aquaphor works great for my son and I would slather him in it morning and night until his rash cleared up. Now I just do it after a bath which is about 2x a week.

It turned out that my son is allergic to milk protein. I am formula feeding now, I combo fed up until 4 months. He now has to be on a hypoallergenic formula because of the allergy. I would try and see if you can clear up the eczema with lotions. If it gets worse or spreads on the whole body, it might just be a milk protein allergy. If it was a lactose allergy, he would also be having tummy issues. No matter what I put on my baby, his rash wouldn't go away until I switched him to the hypoallergenic formula.

I hope you find what is causing the outbreak and that your baby's skin clears up soon.

It is inherited which we found out my MIL has it.

No steroid cream used

We use the honest company healing balm and shampoo & body wash and bathe him everyday when it was at it's worse we were only bathing him 2-3x a week but bathing him everyday helps a lot.

We cannot find a reason for flare ups and they are completely random.

Do you have a family history of eczema or other allergies? Yes, I have it as a chip and my DF had it really bad, his can still flare up now

Have you used steroid treatments prescribed by a pediatrician? Yes, only thing that works for us

What over the counter lotions/creams/ointments work for you?Nothing really, tried loads of different types.

When are flare ups the worst for your baby? Hard to say really, she goes through stages. She makes it worse tho by scratching a lot :(

How often do you bathe your baby and what soap do you use? The doctors have us a special soap for her to use, we bathe her about 2-3x a week (she's 3 now)

Both my boys have it. Ds1 worse. DH had it badly as a baby but now the occasional patch.

We use hydrocortisone and epidirum moisteriser . If its quiet bad we use eumovate which is stronger. DS1 need wrap for 2 months when he was a baby.

I use surecare washing powder and fabric softener (ezema ass recommended) Sunsense sun cream.

We don't use any soaps on him. Just oilitum in thebbath and water for hand washing. He does get jonston baby shampoo and DS2 get the cradel cap shampoo.

I don't wear perfume and my family try not to around them. Whenever anyone does he goes red straughtvaway.

I tried cutting out dairy when bf Ds1 and he was really bad and it made no difference. I did it for 6-7 weeks.

When DS1 was teething or had a cold it was always worse.

If your LO stratches a lot at night scratch sleeves are great x

Sorry for any typos bouncy ds2 in sling !

Hi. Eczema mommy here...both of my kids have it. I had it as a kid, and still do get it sometimes. They also both have allergies.

We have tried a ridiculous number of creams and lotions. For my lg, we use Dermasmooth which is a prescription medicated oil. We have tried so much. We also use hydrocortisone (prescribed) sometimes. We also moisturize them with either Eucerin or A&D ointment.

I want to recommend buying 100% cotton clothes and socks. The other materials irritate their skin. If you can't find 100%, then get as close to that as possible.

We bathe every day, which helps.
