Hello all!
We are visiting Edinburgh in February with the boys and are looking for ideas on what to do whilst we are there. So far we will be visiting the Zoo, but out of ideas for everything else. The Castle looks good but pricey if we are going to the Zoo as well.
We will be there for 2 days, and will have the car. Staying in the city centre.
Thank you! :flower:

I loved Dynamic Earth when I was a kid! I'm not sure if it's still there but I was in Ocean Terminal (shopping centre in Leith) back in 2015 and there was an indoor sand play bit that was free and the kids loved it. The zoo will use up most of your day, though, lots of hill to treck up! There is The National Museum of Scotland. We also went to Deep Sea World across the Firth of Forth in Queesferry.

I'll follow this too, I'm going back next year and the kids will be 6 & 5 so we'll need more like this to do!

Visit the camera Obscura just down from the castle on the royal mile, the National museum of Scotland and the childhood museum are good and Free, our dynamic earth is still there! If you fancy it then you can visit the Scottish parliament, also deep SeaWorld on the Fife side!

The National Museum is great. We went during the Christmas Market a few years ago, but other than the market itself, the National Museum was probably our favourite thing to do.

The museum is good (and free!)
Dynamic earth is quite decent too
Gorgie farm (havent been in years but i think its still there!)
The zoo is good but will take up most of a day and is lots of walking.
Camera Obscura (never been but heard great things about it)
I really wouldnt recommend deep sea world, its very expensive, very small and quite out of the way.
EICA is the climbing arena if your kids likes that sort of thing. Big soft play there too.

I lived in Edinburgh for 26 years and my mind has gone blank! If i think of more ill add them in.

Is the Zoo that big then? Couldn't work out on the map how big it is! Was thinking we could go there on the day we leave (Monday). We live 2 and a half hours away so would be able to fit it in.
I was thinking about getting fold-up scooters for the boys to get around. We are staying just behind Arthur's Seat, about half hour walk from centre I think. There's a bus stop opposite where we are staying but the walk looks scenic. Might make another thread on scooter ideas :haha:

Zoo is quite big and alot of walking uphill. It can take all day if you want to eat there and see the penguin parade and other shows. plus there is a play park etc. Good day out especially if its a nice day.

If you are near arthur seat there are a few ponds around there you could go to feed the ducks. If you are all feeling energetic you could walk up part of the way where the castle ruins are.
