Hi everyone. My section is booked for next wed. My last section was not planned so I was just wondering what the procedure is for an elective. I have pre op on Tues.

pre-op the night before so just bloods/bp etc. You get a tablet to take before bed the night before and one in the morning to help clear things out. No foods after 10pm and no liquids after 4ish am. normally in by early am the day of the section where youll usually get a trace done and bp etc. You'll have to shower with a special wash they give you to make sure everywhere is as clean as can be then into your hospital gown. theyll do your cannula and clipper any hair they need to. Wa:lk to theatre and in on your own without birth partner where they will get you on the table sat up an do your spinal, lay you down then get the partner in and then its all go from there :) just the same as an emergency after that but slower.. if you can ask for a natural section where baby is stepped out slowly and get your skin to skin straight away too.

xxx

Thank you :). I'm still having wobbles about the vbac vs section decision so its good to know what the procedure is for an elective.

I had that problem. I ended up deciding if I went before my date is try natural but baby had other ideas and nothing happened after my waters went to landed with a slow emcs.

At the pre-op the do the blood pressure checks, check your weight go over what will happen the day of the op, they also give you pills to take the night before and the day of the op. you have to stop eating after a certain time the night before and can only have water after that till the next morning.
the day of the op, you arrive early wait to be seen by a consultant who then tells you where you are on the list and what time roughly you'll go in to have the op.
that's what I remember from my last section.

I had an elective for my second child.

Pre op was two days before. At the hospital by 7am on the booked day. Nurse webtbthrough my admission, gave me TED stockings (anti DVT) to wear, citric acid to dry up sscretions(some hospitals give this now rather than ranitidine, the in theatre by 9 after my hubby had got changed.

On bed rest till the afternoon the I could t Sny longer so got up where they changed the sheets. They then took the catheter out.

I was given oramorph 2 hourly that day Nd then 4 hourly on request for the next two days.

Discharged home on third day.
