sorry this could be long. a bit about me, i am 29 from ireland and having baby boy no 4. i have mild Ehlors danlos syndrome. i am expecting my 4th boy in march. my 3 boys all came early 37+4, 37, and 36+2 respectively. my 3rd little boy was born in february this year bot sadly died from sids at 6 weeks old, nothing to do with my condition.

anyway on to the point, i have been transfered for this pregnancy and the care is excellent. they have put me at high risk due to my elhers danlos syndrome, basically my labours are very short my first was 3 hours 2nd was 2hours and 3rd was 59 minutes, the only think that took them so long was my waters didnt burst and had to be done by them!! my condition is what causes early and fast labours i have just found out. i have super eleasticity in my muscles therefor as soon as my cervix soften i dilate from 0 to 10 in minutes!! (lucky me) i never knew any of this during my last 3 even though the hospital knew about my condition. they are giving me steroid shots at 28 weeks this time just incase and have aslo requested i get induced at 37 weeks if i do not proceed myself first. i am very worried as this baby is due on the same day as my last baby.

the question i would like to ask you all is in relation to the steroid shots did this make your baby come even earlier. they predict i will have baby between 35 and 37 weeks because of my condition but do the steroid shots cause baby to come even quicker?

what happens when you get steroids? and does anyone else have elhers danlos syndrome or anything similar to the above, sorry its long just looking for someone who is going thru a similar pregnancy to me - the docs dont really fully understand evnough about elhers danlos!!

I've never heard of steroid shots making babies come earlier, my friend had steroid shots at 30 weeks as her waters were leaking, but it replenished itself and she ended up being induced at 41 weeks so it definitely didn't make her baby come quick.

I'm so sorry for your loss. You have nothing to worry about in regards to the steroids. One round of steroids has not shown any effect in causing preterm labor but has shown great effect in assisting the baby to breathe if he does come early. You have done nothing but decrease the risk to him so breathe easy momma! I have had threatened labor with strong contractions (cervix down to 8mm) for the last two weeks and acupuncture has managed to slow them down considerably. I found a lady who is a midwife and acupuncturist and this is her specialty. If you can find such a person in Ireland perhaps it could help you too. Big hugs!

I've got EDS and ddnt know this!!! My midwife didn't even know what it was! I've got the full blown, bendy all over kind too....I've got pelvis dysfunction (SPD) and have had it since 8 weeks! X

Hi I have type 3 hyper mobility ehlers danlos as well, I am under consultant led care, and I am having steroids at 28 weeks for bean's lungs. I have spd which is getting progressively worse, and I have had to have a bit of time off work so far due to the pain, but trying to stick it out for the last 3 weeks. I was referred to a genetic specialist to get my diagnosis confirmed, and they were very good and supplied my consultant with some good leaflets on the condition and the effects during pregnancy. The main risk that they think I have is the risk of early delivery and the risks of tearing due to quick delivery. They havnt expressed any other worries.

Hope that helps, I'm just getting to understand this myself but my consultant is looking into it and advising my in any way she can.

Although I am a born worrier and my condition doesn't help hehe! ;)

thanks, i can confirm that my 3 births tho early and fast i have never had any tearing or need for stiches, think its due to the elasticity in my skin and muscles!!! hoping you are well and spd managable, i know your pain x
