emptying the urine sample

Mine gives me mine back due to costs pffft lol, they sometimes empty it though and sometimes just hand it back, or don't even touch it just let me hold it whilst they dip it haha!

I'm in the U.S.... I don't have to take a sample with me. At the beginning of my appointment they send me to the bathroom and tell me to write my name on one of the disposable cups in there and use that, then I set it on a specific counter & they take care of it from that point on.

Can I ask you UK ladies though -- why in the world would it matter if they can't throw it down the sink? Surely their office has a toilet in it somewhere that they can put it in! I wouldn't dream of pouring a bunch of pee down my sink anyway! When I was still TTC and was using HPTs, I always used a little cup & dipped the sticks because otherwise I'd end up with pee all over, but then I always dumped the rest of the pee into the toilet and just rinsed the cup in the sink. So yes, there was still some pee that went down the sink but I wouldn't have dreamt of pouring the whole lot of it down there!

Mine gives it me back full!
Theres only a sink in the room and they cant tip it down there
Bit gross carrying pee round in my bag lol

Usually we have our appointments in a big health centre of some type or a hospital ante natal unit or a GP surgery depending on your area, yes there is a toilet somewhere in the building but it isn't immediately adjacent to the examining rooms-in the clinic where I have my appointments the toilets are at the other end of the building and its a big health centre with two totally seperate GP surgeries in there and a baby clinic it would take a lot of time for the midwives to go and empty out the sample in the toilet, rinse it and then being it back. In this area they aren't allowed to empty urine into the sink. I can't fully picture it right now but the room they give the midwives in my centre for appointments is tiny, it does have a sink (I think) but it's a really small one. There is barely enough room to swing a cat in there and there are no windows, just a skylight xx

Huh. My doctor's office is in a huge building with lots of other offices in it, and a lab, etc. There are public restrooms in the main part of the building across from the elevators, but my doctor's office has at least two bathrooms (each with a toilet & a sink) in it. I think the examination rooms might have small sinks in them too, but I can't remember (which is sad considering how many times I've been in them!). When I went to the specialist for my extra ultrasounds the ultrasound rooms actually had bathrooms attached to them! I didn't have to give a sample that time but I needed to pee anyway lol.

allways got given mine back full of wee.... i always wondered if it would be fine for then next sample.

Mine too cupcake.

I assumed the NHS was saving money, hence we were given back the same pot. Not rinsed. I peed all over it last time, as she was holding it I wanted to tell her no!

Mine puts gloves on :haha:

Mine just gets thrown away and a new, fresh one given.

There is no bathroom with a toilet inside adjacent to the examination room in most UK centres. The only time I have come across it is when I had a scan in an early pregnancy unit those had en suite bathrooms with toilet. Midwives here their appointments are back to back and running out to rinse out urine bottles would take up quite a bit of time. You suggested the midwife should be going out to rinse out the bottle not the mum unless I misunderstood xx

Yes I was meaning the midwife rinsing it out (and disposing of the urine in a toilet, not a sink). I'm just surprised that the midwives don't have a bathroom in their office somewhere. So if they (the midwives) need to use the loo they have to go all the way to another part of the building?

mine gives it back full. gross because then it stays in my bag whilst i go around town/back to my office etc.

i then rinse it out at home and have to re-use it. i always find it a bit gross.

It depends which midwife I see. Some of them give me the tub back without wee, some give me the tub back with wee and some just throw it in the bin. Strange!

Often this is the case yes. Xx

My midwife gives me a new one each time. However at the hospital the midwife there handed it back to me and ssid rinse out and use again. Im not doing that as surely you should use a clean one each time?! I threw it anyway so next time i go they will have to give me another pot lol.

Oh and aiming for those tiny pots are a nightmare. lol. My docs give me a pot as well as a tiny test pot so its easier to aim my pee in the bigger pot then just transfer haha!!
The hospital just give me the test pot which i always wee everywhere else but in that pot lol.

My midwives say we must re-use sample pots to keep costs down haha. They usually don't empty it for me, bit odd.

In my old area they'd give you one of those cardboard sick/instrument bowls to wee in and then pour into the bottle only thing is that stuff isn't very waterproof so you'd really have to be quick before it starts leaking through! Xx
