I miss being able to nurse in public and I can't wait for Violet to be able to nurse in public again (less restrictive). She's had trouble being able to nurse in public for about 5 months now (ever since about 4 months). For a while I could do it with some effort but it's now pretty much impossible. There have been a few times recently where I got a tiny bit in her when I tried nursing her in a less distracting atmosphere (behind a restaurant instead of in the restaurant), but generally, nursing doesn't happen in public. So all you mamas with little babies, enjoy it while you can! Mamas with older babies and toddlers, it does get better, right?

They learn how to nurse while doing other things, too, if that's what you're asking. :coffee: :haha: My DS has gotten in the habit of "yelling" at people who pass us while he's nursing and then popping right back on. As if they've offended him somehow. He's also learned the art of keeping the nipple in his mouth while looking every direction. So instead of popping off like yours probably does, he looks at what he would look at anyway while maintaining a firm latch-- even if that means stretching my boob around his face as far as it will go.
Good luck and God speed.

I had just as much trouble formula feeding my first child in public. She was so distracted that she would just sit there with the bottle in her mouth and not drink anything. I had to find more privacy than most breastfeeding mothers to be able to get her to eat. So if this baby is the same way with breastfeeding, I guess I'll just be used to it.

Good luck, though!

Getting a fun baby safe necklace can often help give them something to play with and occupy themselves when they nurse. Although, it only worked some of the time with my boys.
