It is the same in Canada....we don't have to pay for any medial unless cosmetic, but we do have higher taxes, but I would take the taxes over the bill! Universal medical coverage should be mandatory! We can't control some of the medical situations that happen to us

And there's not a thing we can do about it. I pretty much lose sleep at night over it.

Last year my dd had to get four stitches in her toe...the ER bill was $800 and the dr bill was another $800! We have a $3k deductible for our insurance and until we meet that we basically pay 100% out of pocket. Luckily we have a health savings account that gives us $250 a month for medical expenses. So after we reach our deductible our benefits are covered 100%, so I already know what my maternity and hospital bill will be
