Essential Oils in Labour...

Hi everyone :flower:
This is my first time posting here.

This is my first baby (pregnancy going really well so far with no complications) and I'm a little nervous about the birth - planning to have a hospital birth, but I think after reading a lot of threads on here, I would prefer a home birth but worried about it because I'm 30 minutes away from the local hospital. At the moment I really don't want things during labour that could affect the baby - just gas and air if I can so I can be home quickly.

I was just wondering if anyone has used essentail oils in labour and had a good outcome.

I was reading this https://www.naturesgift.com/childbirth.htm and https://www.treehuggermums.co.uk/articles/pregnancy/article.php?article=93 and was wondering if it really works and can I take them and use them in hospital?

Anyone know anything about this?

hello i use oils in labour. because i'm at home i use a burner with lavender and clary sage if you go to hospital you couldn't use a burner but you can put it in a bowl of hot water or on a tissue.
i find yes it helps with the pain i don't know why but it does! ;-)
but i would say if you are thinking you would like a hombirth i would say look at this site
https://www.homebirth.org.uk/
and speak to your midwife and if you want to go for it!!
and don't worry about transfer times most transfers to hospital are not an emergency but a ambulance with a blue light can get to hospital in half the time you could!
xx

Hey hun. You're in the same situation as me. I'd absolutely love a homebirth but the distance is holding me back and I'm hoping for a natural delivery in hospital instead.

I'm about 40mins from hospital in a car so probably 20mins in an ambulance. If it took an ambulance 10mins to get to me and another 20mins to get to hospital this is a whole half hour that me or my baby could be without the immediate medical help we need.

I plan to use clary sage and lavendar but I'll have to do more research on them as I'm clueless. xxx

Thanks for the info both.
I will definitely be doing lots more research and speaking to my MW on the next visit about natural birthing.
As long as there are no complications, I'd rather suffer pain than have little one potentially drowsy and affected by the drugs (from what I have read so far) and then us both having to stay in hospital longer.

I'm planning a home birth and live about 40 mins from the hospital (on a good day!) for me I now home is the best place, if I need a blue light transfer so be it - I trust my midwife to spot any potential problems before they pose a risk to Boo or I.

Thank you for the oil suggestions - will be using those!!
