Thinking back to being a teen I might have had the same reaction, but wouldn't have come out and said it. LOL People do grow up eventually.

You are obviously a mature teen honey - I wouldnt have guessed your age from your posts. And of course being a mummy is a big deal so you have to be mature to take on that responsibility - they are still kids which explains their reaction. I had my first at 19 and even a few on my friends of similar ages were weird about BFing. Yet the same girls are totally different now. I think that for some teens the see their boobs as purely a sexual thing - you know that they have another purpose too

i'll never forget hevz saying a girl once saw her BFing and said "oh i hadnt thought of that"

i never really got the eew breastfeeding, but i got "you're brave" a hell of a lot. erm, i've pushed a 9lb12 baby out of my fahlula with no pain relief, was in labour 23 hours and to put a baby to my breast that produces milk is brave!! hmmm, go figure!!

Just goes to show that teens can be immature! They wouldn't understand until they have a baby themselves I don't think. My friend said she won't ever breastfeed because her boobs are for sex and she'd feel 'wrong'

I've had the same reaction or people going 'ooh still breastfeeding ?' like it was some terrible ordeal for me! V. annoying.

Its not just teens girl i worked with who is 28 said no baby would tough or go near her nipples there for men only and sex, stupid little ******************** just annoys me xxx

But why? Because it is "socially unacceptable"? I don't see a problem with breastfeeding past 2! All of a sudden, a child turns 2, and they can't have a boob? I mean, at that age, it's not even done in public, it may be done at home 1-2 times a day-so no one knows it is being done-yes, maybe there is an age where the child does get too old, but I certainly don't think that is 2-3 years old!


To the OP-they will feel silly when they are older!xx

I personally feel there is no need to BF a child past 2, i don't see as socially unacceptable, if mothers want to carry on BF thats their choice. I wouldn't feel comfortable doing it. BF to me is about the initial attachment to the baby and providing it with the important nutritional value of breast milk. The baby does not gain anything from the milk after amount certain of time. I sometimes feel its the mother that gains the most from BF, for the attachment. A child of 2 is on solids and breastmilk doesnt provide any particular nutritional value.

I think the programmes about women BF their child upto 8 -9 years old has made me find BF an older infant a little disturbing.

Why?! Do children over two suddenly stop drinking milk? My bottle fed daughter didnt and lots of kids I know still have milk after they turn 2. I dont undersand why it's 'disturbing' to give them human milk over cows milk!!!

100% wrong! There are lots of scientifically proven reasons to continue to breastfeed a toddler.

I love it when people say there is no 'need'....there's no need to do lots of things in life in fact most things that make life anything more than mere existance are not needed.

Of course you are entitled to your personal opinion and I'm not offended my the way you feel at all.

I will be BF my child, if they take, as my mum told me i wouldn't take so i was never breastfed. But i feel i will only be breastfeeding for a few months, and i will be bottling some of it so that my OH can feed the baby sometimes!

My fear of BF into toddler age is that it will be harder to wean the child off.

Most toddlers self wean - they just stop being interested in milk before bed or whenever they have got into the habbit of having it. It's only like weaning a child off anything - it depends on your approach I suppose.

Probably poking the coals in a very old fire, but if we're saying that kids always need milk, who cares if it's human's, essentially it would be okay to BF a gradeschooler then...no offense, but bleh!

I personally think once a toddler and mum can communicate in mostly full sentences, it's time to put the boob away...

Its only in the western world that 'extended' Bfing is so taboo. In other parts of the world you see pics of villagers BFing their children (and I mean children not toddlers). They also feed children other than their own like neices and nephews. Just b.c its not everyday practise over here in this country doesn't mean its wrong or disturbing.

I felt the same before I had my son. Always said I would BF for 6months and no longer, turns out that isn't the case and now intend to BF for as long as possible. Don't make any decisions about limiting BF time until you have had baby and done it hun

The world average for BFing is age 4.2yrs - that's the WORLD average. We in the west drag the average down.

I'm not sure what age a 'gradeschooler' is but if they need milk then why not?
