Thats just ignorance. I was however disturbed at a child of about 11 being breastfeed on tv, it was just not right looking. I think it was on shocking stories.
Alice do you know what??? That was a grown woman who said that....early 30's, honestly
My sister was the only one of her teen friends to brestfeed and some of her friends reacted like that too but they grew to really respect her for it....she was so proud of herself and breastfed exclusively for about 9months.
We were in the local pub for lunch today and the waitress was taking our food order and said something about Jack being a sleep and my dad chimed in with "His food's free" and the waitress offered us use of a microwave it obviously just did not occur to her that my dad meant Jack is BF or that formula costs money! She was quite young, so probably just never given it any thought but it shows what a FF-biased culture we have when someone's immediate thought about feeding an infant is formula.
I think for a lot of people it's just not something they give much thought to until they need to and even then some people don't really consider the options and go straight for what they see most around them.
Personally I feel a bit uncomfortable with older children BFing. I'm not sure how I will feel in a year, say, when we may want to consider what to do with Jack. I think it's the talking thing for me too, I think once a child can communicate in full sentences it's time to stop BF. That's just for me personally and I understand people wanting to continue.
