Hi girls

I am exclusively breastfeeding my baby but started expressing as want to introduce a bottle to make life easier later (my older daughter wouldnt take a bottle for 2months!!) However once ive expressed the milk looks really curdled and seperated. Ive read online this is normal but does this happen to most people? Just doesnt look like its ediavle and dont want to use it! So i tend to express then give it to her before it goes like this!

Many thanks in advance xx

How quickly does it separate? I know I would get an almost solid 'cream' layer on the top when I stored it in the fridge but I've never heard of it separating right away.

If it smells ok and you know you've stored it properly, it should be fine. It should blend back together when you swirl the bottle (or when you run the bottle under warm water) because it's just the fat separating out.

Breastmilk is mostly water so the fat seperates when it is stood for a while. It does not come out homogenized from the boob ;-)

All milk starts out that way, where the cream and the whey separate. If they didn't homogenize your milk, cows milk would look that way too!

It can be pretty sharply separated too, it's odd!
