I am having problems breastfeeding so have started to express. I was wondering if LO can have both expressed milk and formula or whether its best to stick to one?

Thanks

My pediatrican at one point said if i needed to I could even give 1/2 and 1/2

But can I ask what kind of problems are you having that thinking about giving formula?

LO wont latch on and screams after a few mins of trying. My nipples dont stay erect when he does take a few sucks and he gives up and screams more. I have started to bottle feed but have managed to express successfully. I am worried I shouldnt be giving him expressed breastmilk on min and then formula the next  I really want him to get the nutrition from breastmilk

loopylou86 if its nutricion you are worried about, you can do 50% breast milk and 50% formula and this will give you the best of both worlds believe it or not - it was something I was recommended to do to help my preemie put on weight but still get breast milk. So if its something you fancy doing, its ok!

As long as you aren't going back and forth it shouldn't be an issue. As in, feeding expressed for a couple weeks and then feeding formula a few weeks. It's harder on their digestive system to keep switching.

If you are going to do it..make sure you are combi-feeding right from the get go and giving 50/50.

Yes fine to do both. My LO has 1/2 day breastmilk and 1/2 day formula and hasnt had any probs xx

Just out of interest, how long can your supply last feeding this way?

x
