Extra scans?

my pregnancy was high risk from the word go with my doctors/midwives, every antenatal appointment i was scanned. and i didnt have any problems until around 28weeks so i guess the whole high risk thing is true, and also, i dont see why its unfair?

Im not a high risk pregnancy, its just hospital policy I think. The midwife says they scan every teen twice more.

im high risk, i just turned 17.. 2 weeks ago i dont know if i get extra scans yet i guess ill find out at my 20week scan.. i no since im high risk i have more Mw appointments than it says i should in the notes..

so far and im 15weeks ive had 3 Mw appointments and 1 Scan and i have another mw appointment on the 9th and antenatal class starts that week to..

Maybe is hosp policy, my friend had extra scans, she was tiny tiny tiny! And i know your quite short =]

xx

I've never heard of this o_O
I've had my two and nothing was mentioned, going for a private 3D scan at around 30 weeks but that's it.

Yeah my friend is 17 and she gets extra scans and appointments because she is a younger mum to be. It's not just teens, I think older mums to be get extra care too. I think they are like 35+? I'm not entirely sure on the age xx

I was scanned every 2 weeks..although that wasnt because of age. That was medical purposes. However a friend of mines had a baby the year before me, she was 17 but she was scanned a couple extra times because of his body frame size (shes tiny for her age) and it was to make sure the baby was growing at a rate her body could handle.

they do this as teenagers bodies have not stopped growing and there pelvis might not be strong enough or big enough to give birth so they have to check if they are having a big baby etc

Im 18 and classed as high risk and i have extra scans and thats because of my past and medical problems but my friend had a baby in august and she was classed as low risk and only had two scans and she was 17, my midwife told me teenagers are usually classed as low risk because they tend to be relatively healthy

guess im just bitter. i only got 1nhs scan at 13+5. no 20week scan so it makes me mad that she gets 4 just cos shes 2 years younger :(

Well,I understand why girls younger than 18 or even younger than 16 would be classed as high risk.
I don't know,I was 18 when I got pregnant and wasn't a high risk till about 20 weeks when I got a swelling in my uterus.

Haha I don't know, I'm 16 and should be low risk really, I've quit smoking, drinking, have started eating more than my five a day, I never cook with frozen food these days, make stuff from scratch with meat from the butchers and fruit and veg from the grocers. I look after myself better than my mum looks after herself, she'd be a higher risk than me anyway 'cause of age but still, you get the idea
I'm gonna hound my midwife about this, I'm 2 years younger!

You never had a 20 week scan hun. God thats out of order. I would be mad if i was you to.

But like i said before i was 16 when i fell preg and 17 now and i have never been classed as high risk. I thought it would be the same everywhere as they must follow the same guidelines. Oh i don't know im confused. But i didnt get any extra scans
xx

oh not fair!! :( lol

im 17 and ive had 2 scans my last one 21 weeks was told i wouldn't be getting anymore!
and im low risk..so i think it must just be that hospital!!

**Blah11** i would be pissed 2 hun if i didn't get a 20 week scan!! im finding it hard enough not having any now! u should demand one!! lol..

I think everyone no matter age even if there pregnancy is fine should get at least 4 scans spaced out! coz it puts our minds at rest that every things ok!! well it does mine anyways! lol..

Rach - Dont worry, there just keeping an eye on you...I think some of these comments are slighty wierd as its not her fault shes getting the extra scans, and that all NHS Trusts are different.

dont get me wrong im not being horrible and saying its her fault! or that she shouldn't get them or anything... its just abit upsetting that its not the same for everyone thats all!

i mean to each person there own baby is so important and its amazing what a little reassurance of scans can do! coz much as hearing babies heartbeat is great! u still cant beat actually seeing the lil one!!

I agree with this. Im sure anyone was trying to be horrible but it does get frustrating that not everyone is treated the same when there seems to be no reason apart from age(of course if there were medical risks it would be understandable). I mean I'm a year younger and I've had the same amount of scans as everyone else. And poor Blahh11 didnt even get a 20 week scan. So if i was her id be peeded off too. Not with the original poster but with the way the NHS seems to work sometimes.
xx

yes I'm not mad at the oiginal poster! Just the silly NHS is my area >.> Don't think it should be any different in diff areas as we all pay the same amount of tax.

It might just be the hospital you go to?
All places are different, A lot of people get a 12 week scan, and i only got a 8 week and 18-20ish week one. and more after that but i have not been told to schedule those yet
