Fabric for mei tai

Hi ladies

my mum has offered to make me a Mei Tai :thumbup: as I am rubbish at sewing. :dohh:

I found some patterns for her on the web but I am not sure what kind of fabric to buy. Any advice?
 
If I may ask where did u find the patterns?

Ive started sewing one and would advise not to use canvas for the straps - they are too stiff. Have now scrapped that and just had delivered some nice black cotton twill for the straps so going to use that, seems sturdy enough. I will use a layer of that for the inside of the body, then some canvas inside to make it sturdy, then a cotton print for the outside of the body.

Looked in all my local fabric shops but couldnt find anything suitable for the straps so had to order online. I have a joey sling on loan and this feels exactly the same as the straps on that so thats good enough for me.

Good luck with the mei tai's people. Will post some pics of mine when i finally finish making it.
